Child and Family Support Worker

The CAMHS Children's Eating Disorder Service is seeking an enthusiastic Child and Family Support Worker to join their team on a 12 month fixed term contract. The role will be based on the Children's Ward at Musgrove Park Hospital and will provide practical support to young people admitted on an established eating disorder pathway. They will work under supervision and direction of qualified staff and will be expected to work with a degree of autonomy. There will be a need to have strong communication skills and be a team player.
The post holder will provide support to children and young people open to CAMHS who have been admitted to a paediatric ward. They will support mealtimes, take physical observations and communicate with qualified staff. The post holder will be working as part of the CAMHS multi-disciplinary team, and their assessments/interventions will be part of the overall care plan for the child/family.

- The Child & Family Mental Health Support Worker needs to be able to communicate, provide and receive complex, sensitive and at times contentious information, where skills of persuasive motivational negotiating, empathy and counselling are required - often in situations where there are barriers to understanding and high stress levels.
- Counselling, advocacy and listening skills are essential, alongside the need for awareness and sensitivity to a range of mental health and other additional needs. This may be on an individual basis or in a group setting.
- It is essential to have an empathetic understanding of the needs of children, young people and wider family members and to promote / maintain relationships to ensure successful outcomes. Previous work either directly or indirectly with this client group is essential, and you may have had personal experience of providing care.
