Shop Volunteer
This shop has shifts available Monday to Friday._
The role
We’ve recently opened a Regional Distribution Centre in Fleet - this is a place where donated items from the public (like clothes and homeware) are taken and processed centrally in bulk ready for them to be sent out to our high street shops to sell.
We’re looking for keen volunteers to support this exciting opportunity - a chance to be involved in something new and different, help to drive sales to support our research and gain valuable skills along the way.
What you will be doing
While this list is not exhaustive, it gives you a flavour of some of the typical tasks that you could be helping with at the new Regional Distribution Centre:
- Sorting through donated items, identifying which ones are suitable for sale in our shops or through our online marketplace
- Getting the items ready for selling - hanging, steaming, pricing, and tagging
- Learning about our pricing structure and how to get the most from the donated items
- Assisting our drivers in the collection, delivery and distribution of stock
- Keeping things tidy, clean and well organised
- Customer service and support
- We value our volunteer’s knowledge and experience so if there is a particular area that you are interested in - whether that is a keen eye for photography, or know a lot about books or fashion, have a chat with the team and there may be opportunity to work more closely in that area.
Your commitment and location
There is no minimum time commitment for this role, we'll be happy to have you for as long as you're able to support us
This role is based in our Cancer Research UK Regional Distribution Centre located at Unit 1 & 2, Quantum Business Park, Beacon Hill Road, Church Crookham, Fleet, GU52 8EA.
There is free onsite parking available and local transport links.
What kind of person are we looking for
You don't need any formal experience to volunteer in our Regional Distribution Centre, you just need to be motivated, hardworking and enjoy being part of a team.
It’s a great way to learn retail, distribution and logistics skills and be part of a lovely team that’s welcoming, professional and committed to our goal of beating cancer sooner.
Please note that you must be aged 18 or over to volunteer in our Distribution Centre or any of our shops or stores.
What’s in it for you?
Volunteering with Cancer Research UK has a host of benefits, including:
- Developing new and existing skills
- Boosting your CV by gaining valuable experience for future roles
- A unique insight into the world of the charity retail sector
- Meeting new people
- Having fun and enjoying yourself
- Travel and other reasonable expenses reimbursed, as agreed
What support will we give you?
There’ll be a full induction as well as ongoing training opportunities to make sure you’re fully confident and able to excel in your role. Plus, you will work closely with staff and volunteers at the Regional Distribution Centre who will support you.
Ready to apply?
Why we need you
Beating cancer is a team effort that includes everyone from the researchers in the lab to the volunteers giving their time. Every step we make relies on every pound, every hour, and every person. Play a part in this inspiring story and volunteer with us. Together we are beating cancer.
