Premier Engineering has engaged with a key client and a leading handling equipment manufacturer based in Telford. A privately owned engineering company specialising in the design, manufacture, installation and service of product handling systems. Due to teamand project growth a new opportunity has become available for an **Engineering Design Manager** to join on a permanent basis.

**Overview**
They will oversee all engineering to ensure projects are done in a timely, cost effective manner and to the required customer specification.
This is a hands on role and you will be engineering contracts as well as overseeing all other design team activity
**Management Responsibilities**
Conduct a review of existing engineering team and determine each individuals strengths and weaknesses.
Implemement a training plan to upskill each individual where necessary and recruit new members as required.
Have an overview of all current projects to determine allocation of contracts to design engineers
Ensure engineers are completely familiar with customer specifictions, scope of supply, timescales, budgets and external certifying bodies
Conduct regular contract reviews to ensure all KPIs are on target
Ensure engineers are controlling sub contract fabrication suppliers through both site visits and telephone/video calls
**Design Responsibilities**:

- Produce practical new designs to tight timescales in a supportive environment
- Generation of documentation within the production design office including, but not limited to, drawings, parts lists, Drawing Office Purchase Requisitions and Drawing Office Issue Note’s to ensure project deadlines set both Internally and externally aremet.
- Management of Bills of Material and detail manufacturing drawing
- Produce conceptual designs from functional specifications
- Layout design of mechanical/hydraulic machinery
- To work in multi-discipline project teams on specific aspects of the machine design
- Undertake component stress calculations and compile documented calculation packages for third party verification in order to comply to varying international codes and standards
- Produce equipment test specifications for use in house and onboard ship
- Liaison with other Design Engineers to ensure design specifications are met
- Assistance with other departments notably Purchasing, Production, Project Management and Quality Assurance
- Identification of any improvement to working practices in the production design department
- Contribution to the completion and implementation of concessions and alterations / amendments to drawings
- Bid support, travel for technical input, customer liaison, input to sales proposals
- Participation in, and contribution to, design reviews, contract reviews and other project-related activitie
- Attendance at technical meetings (UK and Overseas)
- Liaison with Service Engineers and assistance with customer queries and problems
- As well as design, all staff work flexibly to cover all aspects of the production of relatively complex one-off machines

**Experience**:

- We are looking for engineers with an innovative mechanical background a passion for engineering excellence and significant experience on which to draw.
- The result is a varied job with varying degrees of responsibility, differing types of tasks ranging from initial design to machine commissioning, perhaps project management or customer visits but with practical design remaining central to the job
- Experience in structural steel fabrication design.
- Effective in carrying out detailed structural strength calculations for both structural and mechanical components.
- Display a high degree of computing literacy on engineering design packages.
- Highly organised with good interpersonal skills

**The following is also desirable**:

- BEng (Hons) Design Engineering or equivalent experience
- Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership
- Familiar and confident with 3-D structural analysis
- Competent in Basic 3-D FEA techniques
