**Job Title**:Medical Receptionist
**Accountable to**:Practice Manager
**Job Summary**:To deal with all enquiries from patients efficiently and courteously. Ensure that all filing, record keeping and distribution of documentation is undertaken in accordance with practice policy.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
1 To promote a positive and professional image of Briarwood Medical Centre.
2 To be pleasant and courteous to service users and colleagues.
3 To work proactively as a team member.
4 To work to a consistently high standard and seek to improve skills and abilities.
5 To be willing to ask for help on anything that you are unsure of.
6 To be willing to take part in training opportunities.
8 To answer the telephone, make and cancel appointments as appropriate and deal with all enquiries in a professional manner.
9 To register patients following practice procedures.
10 To take and record messages accurately for the Doctors or any member of the Primary Health Care Team as required ensuring that any appropriate follow up work is undertaken.
11 To advise patients of relevant charges for private services. To accept payment and to make sure that all relevant receipts and documents are completed.
12 To retrieve patient medical records and administration forms for Doctors, Nurses and other Health Care Professionals as required.
13 To retrieve and file medical records accurately and ensuring that the filing system is maintained in strict alphabetical order.
14 To file all results, reports and correspondence where appropriate in patient medical records maintaining strict chronological order.
15 To ensure that medical records are kept in good repair.
16 To open and close the premises in line with the practices security policy as and when appropriate.
17 To take requests for repeat prescriptions and to ensure that they have been signed by the doctor before handing to patients.
18 To receive and record requests for home visits.
19 To ensure that an adequate supply of stationery and administration forms are available to all clinicians.
20 To attend training, either in-house or externally, that is necessary to fulfil the role.
21 Adhoc projects or tasks as deemed appropriate and directed by the Deputy/Practice Manager
22 To be aware of the practice safeguarding policy for children and adults and the responsibility flowchart. Updates are to be undertaken at the relevant level and within the stated timeframe.
23 This job description is intended to provide an outline of the key tasks and responsibilities only. There may be other duties required of the post holder commensurate with the position. The responsibilities may be amended after discussion with the post holder to take into account the development of both the post and the practice. All members of staff should be prepared to take on additional duties or relinquish existing duties in order to maintain the effective running of the practice and flexibility is crucial.
