additional days during Christmas closure)

**Hours of Work**:10.30 am to 6.30 pm Monday to Thursday, 11.00 am to 6.30 pm Friday, with
a 30 minute unpaid lunch break each day.

Hours of work may need to be flexible to fit in with staff rotas and school
opening hours. The school buildings are open between 7.00 am and 6.30
pm. We are currently reviewing the site shift patterns.

**Some overtime will be required at weekends and evenings to cover school**
**events and lettings.
**Pay Scale**:Pts 16 - 17 £18,697 - £19,141

**Key purpose of the role
**Under the direction of the School’s Site Manager, you will be responsible for duties covering security,

heating, lighting and cleaning of the school premises, for porterage, minor repairs and maintenance,

and general duties associated with the support of the premises. A key aspect of this role is securing

call-outs at weekends and unsociable hours may be necessary from time to time.

**Main

**Responsibilities**:
**_Security of school site: _**
- Unlocking and locking school buildings before and / or after school day, as required
- Key holder.

**_Caretaking duties: _**
- General maintenance and repair duties
- Porterage duties
- Laying out, clearing and stacking furniture
- Replacing (to a safe height) electric lamps and tubes
- Replenishment of supplies across the school site, including toilets
- Reporting defects to the school’s Site Manager
- Regular gas/electricity/water meter readings
- Checking of emergency exit doors - ease of opening
- Undertaking planned maintenance and repairs during school closure
- Minor painting and decorating.

**_Assisting with the maintenance of external areas: _**
- Assisting with the maintenance of the school site and buildings, internally and externally
- Cleaning of external areas
- Leaves - seasonally
- Litter - daily as needs arise
- General cleanliness around the school site and buildings
- Emptying of waste bins daily, etc
- Removal of graffiti as required
- Clearing of drains and gulleys
- Collecting litter
- Treatment of pathways and steps with salt, grit and sand during periods of ice and snow.

**_Cleaning: _**
- Monitoring standards of internal cleanliness of buildings and reporting to school Site Manager
- Assisting with the cleaning of the school as necessary
- Cleaning of specialist areas eg boiler rooms, stoves and toilets
- Undertaking thorough cleaning programme during school closure
- Monitoring cleaning supplies and report requirements for stock levels.

**_Other: _**
- Other duties in support of the school as decided by the Headteacher/Business Manager
- Out of hours on call rota
- To cover duties for colleagues as required
- ATP operation closing after use out of school hours (part of rota)
- Aikrigg grass pitches - opening and closing (part of rota)
- Weekend and evenings opening and closing of buildings and sports fields as required (part of

rota)
- Attending staff meetings as required.
