Mapping Project Officer
This job requires the post holder to travel across the UK.
**Context**:This role sits within Intelligent Health’s famous Beat the Street project team. Beat the Street is a community engagement game which has engaged over one million participants in towns and cities across the UK and Europe. Beat the Street gets people of all ages more active and connected to the place that they live and their local community.
The Beat the Street game is based around gamification, using RFID technology (Beat Boxes) placed in strategic and engaging locations where people are inspired to walk, cycle, run or scoot to. The mapping of Beat Boxes is a hugely important part of the process leading to a fun and successful game and therefore this role is critical to the success of each Beat the Street project.
**The Company**
Intelligent Health have a mission to build active communities bringing families, neighbours, and local businesses together to feel proud of where they live and empowered to make positive changes to their health and wellbeing. Our vision is to improve health as a state of overall wellbeing, not just an absence of disease.
**Role Summary**
The mapping role sits within our Operations Team but works closely with all departments. You will be a key member of the team committed to delivering long-term positive behaviour change to health and activity levels across the UK and beyond.
During the ground risk assessment phase, you will spend time in the game town or city, therefore working away for short periods will be required. Foreign travel may also be required when IH secure project contracts abroad.
**Duties to include**
- Understanding the criteria and KPIs specific to each project.
- Understanding the rules of the game and parameters of risk assessing safe locations for Beat Boxes.
- Liaising with key members of the community, clients and stakeholders within each project area and setting up meetings to plan the best and most engaging routes.
- Working to key deadlines and understanding project dependencies between workstreams.
- Creating a desktop map of the game area and plotting Beat Box locations in safe and engaging places.
- Individually visiting and risk assessing each proposed Beat Box location prior to installation; this involves visiting the game area and staying there for a number of days until all locations have been assessed and planned. The role therefore requires some frequent working away from home during specific points during project mobilisation.
- Completing detailed risk assessment documentation to evidence IH’s due diligence that locations have been assessed as safe and appropriate. These documents are later used to seek permission from Highways to install the Beat Boxes and for the installation team to erect the Beat Boxes.
- Carefully checking the map design to ensure the correct locations have been plotted on the printed map.
- Working with the Central Engagement Team and Tech Team after games go live to review player complaints about box locations and find alternative locations. This step also involves changing the online map pins after the Beat Box has been relocated.
- Documenting progress on all workstreams within the project plan tool used by all staff.
- Maintaining clear records and storing them in agreed documentation shared folders.
- Working with other Mapping Project Officer(s) to agree how to work together to achieve outputs for each phase of games.
- Working on other company projects when time permits; we are a growing company and there are various other projects taking place which the MPO can assist with.
- Supporting the company’s commitment to continuous professional development by learning from lessons, finding new and improved ways of working.
- Attending regular project and meetings and update the team on your workstream.
- Training new members of the team when required.
**Skills & Competencies**
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Stakeholder engagement - building and sustaining good working relationships. Able to persuade and influence.
- Experience of working to tight deadlines.
- Ability to work on own and as part of the project team.
- Punctual and able to prioritise busy workload and manage competing priorities across projects.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good geographical knowledge - ability to use online map and visit corresponding locations. GIS experience preferable.
- IT literate - intermediate ability with PowerPoint, Word and Excel and aptitude to learn how to use new systems.
- Willingness to support other teams with variety of tasks to ensure team success.
- Willingness to work beyond ones’ hours when required.
- Full driving license, clean with no convictions or penalties.
This role is based at the company head office in Reading, however it requires frequent periods working away from home to conduct the ground recces on upcoming games.
