Detention Engagement Teams (DETs) are a dynamic and responsive team working as part of the Detention, Progression and Returns Command. The DET team operate within Immigration Removal Centres (IRCs), using face-to-face interaction to build relationships with those in detention and provide an important on-site link between people in detention and their case working teams, enhancing the quality and frequency of engagements between the Home Office and the people entering IRCs.

Being based within the centres, engaging with those in detention and on-site healthcare providers and suppliers, DETs are better placed to ensure that vulnerability issues are identified and managed at the earliest opportunity.

The role of the Engagement Support Officer is an Operational role that is interesting and challenging, demanding high levels of co-operation from those in detention, stakeholders and IRC service providers.

You will require excellent interpersonal skills to deal with different, and sometimes difficult situations. Self-confidence, organisation skills and personal integrity are also required within this challenging environment of a busy desk with a high volume of work.

**Person specification**:
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
To support the EO Engagement Officer in increasing voluntary and compliant returns and reducing the number of bed nights utilized by:

- Managing detainee arrival and departure lists and allocating all new arrivals to an Engagement Officer.
- Completing of all associated actions on Home Office IT systems (CID/ATLAS).
- Monitoring and actioning Inboxes.
- Allocating papers for service to the appropriate Engagement Officer and arranging engagement slots via the service provider as required.
- Dealing with straightforward requests from those in detention and / or routing to the Engagement Officer or case owner as required.
- Ensuring that claims for protection in the UK and / or claims of modern slavery submitted by those in detention are verbally referred immediately to the HEO Operations Manager and then in writing to the relevant case working team’s single point of contact and to the Operational Support & Certification Unit (OSCU) if flight arrangements are imminent.
- Servicing of papers to those in detention as required.
- Flagging contract issues appropriately and in a timely manner to line manager or Detention & Escorting Services (DES) Compliance team.
- Contributing to the compilation of statistics.
- Attending consultative forums with those in detention as required.
- Updating HO IT systems (Casework Information Database (CID), ATLAS, and KRONOS) and other associated spreadsheets to enable review by management.
- Working with skin irritants / sensitisers (hand sanitiser to be used entering building and in office)
- Working with or in the vicinity of children or vulnerable adults.
- Other ad hoc administrative duties as required.

Training and development will be provided to undertake this rewarding role.

We would particularly welcome those applicants who have current or previous experience working in a custody or institutional setting.
