**Job summary**:
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Central Secretariat within the Economic and Domestic Affairs Secretariat, working at the heart of government. The team is responsible for the effective functioning of Cabinet Government, by providing the highest quality support to the meetings of Cabinet and its committees, and in developing and providing high quality advice to the Cabinet Office and the wider Civil Service on the effective functioning of Cabinet Government.

**Job description**:
The Central Secretariat are the hub of expertise on the UK’s system of Cabinet government: how ministers take decisions on the high profile and cross-cutting issues of the day. This team ensures that those processes run smoothly and work as effectively as possible.

The Cabinet team provides the secretariat to the Prime Minister’s Cabinet meetings, agreeing the agenda, preparing discussions and papers, and ensuring the meeting runs smoothly each week, as well as running Cabinet meetings and away days outside of London. The Cabinet Committee team coordinates and oversees the delivery of Cabinet committees, and develops and shares best practice in their effective running. The Cabinet Collective Responsibility team protects the safe space for ministerial discussions at Cabinet and committees in order to ensure the highest quality of ministerial decision making in Cabinet and its committees.

Post holder responsibilities will vary across teams, but will include:

- Providing effective and efficient delivery support to ensure the smooth running of Cabinet, its Committees, and other key meetings, including liaising with Ministerial Private Offices and Officials.
- Developing and implementing effective administrative and project management processes, and ensuring very accurate record keeping and document control.
- Liaising directly with the offices of senior stakeholders including Cabinet Ministers, senior Civil Service leaders and external experts in a time sensitive environment.
- Leading on the management of a team inbox, triaging and allocating tasks requiring action.
- Utilising cross government networks and working relationships to ensure that sensitive information is handled with discretion and awareness of security guidelines.
- Building effective networks and working relationships across the Cabinet Secretariat, Number 10, Government departments and external stakeholders, including with senior colleagues, to ensure delivery of projects in line with the principles set out in the Cabinet Manual and Ministerial Code.
- Contributing to the strong and supportive culture of learning and development in the Central Secretariat, the post holder will be expected to continually seek out knowledge and improvements, share it widely, and up-skill colleagues.

In addition for the Cabinet role:

- Supporting the planning and delivery of Cabinet Away Days and Cabinet UK, to ensure a successful and engaging programme.

In addition for the Committees role:

- Proactively building relationships across the Cabinet office to developing and share an excellent understanding of best practice in the running of Cabinet committees in line with the Cabinet manual.

In addition for the Cabinet Collective Responsibility role:

- Developing and sharing expertise on the principle of collective responsibility as set out in the Cabinet Manual and Ministerial Code to ensure that information is handled securely.

The role holders will be expected to carry out any other related duties that are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed. Weekend working may be required on rare occasions and some late weekday working will be necessary - we have clear overtime policies, and work hard to prioritise the wellbeing of the team.
