Logistics Lead

The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for a motivated and pro-active Logistics Lead, to join our Service Leads team, based in Cambridge. In this position you'll take full ownership of managing the Loading Bay operations, ensuring smooth and efficient processes. Leading a team of four Logistics Bay Operatives, you’ll be a hands-on, visible leader, actively engaging with your team on the floor and setting the standard for excellence.

This role will be a full-time, permanent position based in a brand-new facility at the customer site - The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. Working hours: Monday to Friday, core hours

The Team

You’ll lead and mentor a close-knit team of 4 Logistics Bay Operatives, who work closely together in a compact environment. They are responsible for managing the arrival of 20 to 30 vehicles daily at the Loading Bay, overseeing the gas farm, and providing critical support to scientific operations.

You’ll belong to our business department Lab and Production Services, which supports big pharmaceutical companies and laboratories all over the world, in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry.

What we're looking for:

- _ Experience_:

- Previous experience as a Loading Bay Operations Manager, Deputy Manager, or Dispatch Manager in a fast-paced 3PL logistics or parcel delivery environment, preferably within the scientific industry.
- Experience overseeing gas farms and managing gas cylinders.
- At least 2 years of line management experience, leading a team in a logistics environment.
- Strong understanding of chain of custody processes and root cause analysis.
- Proficient in data capture, analysis, and reporting, with experience using various IT systems, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

- Oversee a close-knit team of 4 Logistics Bay Operatives, providing guidance, support, and direction to ensure daily operations run smoothly
- Oversee the control and validation of all inbound and outbound vehicles destined for the Gas Farm and Loading Bay, ensuring efficient and secure operations
- Utilize the Vehicle Dock Management System to coordinate and schedule Loading Bay requests, ensuring timely and accurate processing
- Manage gas supply levels, including reordering and coordinating delivery schedules, and handle the safe transport of pressurized vessels and Liquid Nitrogen to various locations, including Nuclear Magnetic Resonance magnets
