**Team Vision - Adolescent Team**:
The vision in Bristol is that every child and young person is kept safe from exploitation and violence and supported to achieve their aspirations.
The Adolescent team is a multi-disciplinary service aiming to identify and disrupt exploitation (criminal and sexual), serious youth violence (extra-familial harm) and to assess and understand risk both to individuals and across an area and deliver interventions to those at risk and or being harmed through exploitation and violence and survivors of this. The team aims to highlight, disrupt, and safeguard against extra-familial harm as well as support and encourage best practice in relation to working with children at risk of and being harmed through exploitation and violence.
**Purpose of the role**:
To work under the supervision of the Extra-Familial Harm Lead, to undertake the duties and responsibility of a keyworker where there is a plan to support children and families who are experiencing extra-familial harm.
To work with children and families to create opportunity for sustainable change and improve outcomes where there is harm outside the home, working closely with children and families to build strong relationships, based on respect and positive regard, while providing practical, effective and targeted family support.
Working within the adolescent service contributing toward whole family assessments, planning and review, alongside social workers, family workers and other relevant professionals to understand children’s needs and the issues impacting on their safety and risk of exploitation and extra-familial harm
**Main function/duties of the role**:
Manage a caseload of children who have multiple issues and complex needs, working persistently, intensively and with family members. Coordinate practical and emotional support to the family particularly by providing help and support during times of crisis.
Build effective working relationships with children flexibly and creatively, and lead on support to reduce the risks of extra familial harm. Work in partnership with families and the professional network to develop a family action plan with achievable and identified outcomes, within timescales, that include safety planning where appropriate.
Act as an advocate for children, by planning and attending meetings, liaising with other agencies to achieve a co-ordinated Multi-Agency plan. Act as an advocate for children and families in a wide range of contexts, offer information, advice and guidance to families and agencies whilst negotiating and positively influencing to maximise opportunity for change.
Provide specialist direct work with children and families, delivering planned interventions, to address needs as identified in the action plan, which is outcome focussed, and direct families to community and specialist and services where required.
Maintain accurate case records, general administration and gather information relating to the caseload, e.g. case notes, meeting minutes, reports, correspondence, genograms.
**Practice frameworks and approaches**:
To develop plans with young people and families ensuring that the approach you are using is effective for the needs identified. These may include but will not be limited to trauma-informed practice, relational approaches, NVR and AMBIT
**Day in the life**:
This role will be offer practitioners the ability to develop enduring relationships with the children they are working with. The role will be varied depending on the needs of the children on your caseload. The type of day to day work may be supporting young people in healthy relationships work, supporting families in developing habits that promote connection or it might be advocating for a young person at a statutory meeting.
The plans you develop with children should be done together with children so that they are collaborating in and co-producing the plans that are for them. The main aim of this role is to build enduring supporting relationships with children that allows for and promotes connection.
