Soil Association Certification Ltd is the UK's leading organic and ethical certification body, offering a wide range of integrity-based certification schemes across food, farming, health and beauty, têxtiles, and forestry. We are also responsible for workingwith the public, our clients, and retailers to grow the demand for these organic and ethically certified products. We have over 6,000 clients across 60 countries and are the leading organic certification body in the UK. 90% of UK organic processors and almost50% of UK organic farmers choose to certify with us, taking advantage of our added value offer and support alongside our certification expertise. The Soil Association Organic symbol is the most recognised organic symbol in the UK. A wholly owned commercialsubsidiary of the Soil Association charity, we are a not-for-profit enterprise with a total turnover of £9m and 140 staff. The financial surplus from our work is ploughed back into achieving the organisation’s vision of restoring a safe climate, nature andhealth from the ground up.
Demand for our services is growing rapidly and the UK organic market continues to grow, now reaching the £3 billion mark. Consumers are more interested than ever in health and sustainability and knowing how their food, beauty and clothing has been producedand grown.
As Commercial & Marketing Director, you will report to the Chief Executive of Soil Association Certification Ltd as a member of the senior leadership team and be responsible for leading the growth of our organic schemes. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading the Commercial and Marketing function within Soil Association Certification to achieve our business objectives across income generation for the organic schemes and organic market growth.
- Managing an experienced team to deliver a best-in-class account management service, actively growing and maintaining our client base and market share
- Delivering strong and effective B2B marketing campaigns across food, farming and beauty / têxtiles that both grow our business and the wider market.
- Leading the delivery of key projects including the award-winning BOOM (Best Of Organic Market) awards, the annual Organic Trade Conference, and the highly regarded Organic Market Report.
- Actively engaging with and influencing a wide variety of commercial stakeholders, including multiple retailers, providing clear support on range of key issues and growing the presence of organic products in store.
- Continually improving and developing our engagement and insight / research programmes to support clients
- Actively undertaking speaking and presentation engagements and media work to increase the profile of organic both in the UK and Internationally
To succeed, you’ll need strong commercial experience with a proven track record of income and customer growth. You’ll lead with high integrity, inspiring your team to achieve their best whilst being supportive, collegiate, and progressive. You’ll have experienceand skills in marketing, category and consumer insight, customer/stakeholder engagement, planning and team leadership. You will be able to engage and influence at a senior level including CEO’s, founders and senior retail executives and you’ll also need adeep commitment to our values and mission and be passionate about the difference we can make.
