An exciting opportunity has been made available to join us as Head of Databases. The Head of Databases provides technical and managerial development and oversight for all Databases used in Santander UK, inclusive of contract and relationship management withdatabase vendors.

Head of databases will be the team manager for all DBAs. The Head of databases will be the point of contact for all database escalations and will be responsible for designing, installing, configuring, upgrading and maintaining databases for all of SantanderUK.

- Ensuring the service availability
- Managing obsolescence within the database environments
- Leading in the design, testing, delivery, reporting, escalation, and management for updates or changes to the database environments.
- Managing 3rd party services included within the database estate, inclusive of contract and relationship management
- Being a technical lead for projects
- Performing BAU activities, 24x7 On-call support, and perform out of hours changes.

**What you'll bring.**
- Significant and demonstrable experience managing large and complex multi-vendor database estates in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
- Previous experience in leading architectural design, planning and implementation of Database Solutions.
- Experience in a leading role during escalations
- Experience in technology delivery
- Experience in defining and evolving Database process and standards in keeping with industry changes with respect to cyber threats
- Experience to manage and improve the team performance, including hiring, training and development, guiding and supporting the Database team to achieve performance goals and objectives

**It would also be nice for you to have.**
- Any comparable and relevant vendor certifications or qualifications
- Any exposure to programming
- Significant experience in the Database industry dealing with high performance and availability production environments.

**What else you need to know.**

This is a permanent role to be based at our Milton Keynes site, although there is some flexibility to work remote/from home. There is an expectation initially that you would attend/work from the office in Milton Keynes at least 1 day per week, or as agreedwith your Line Manager.

You will also be required to provide 24x7 support to back up all platforms / perform out of hours changes when required.
