The primary purpose of the Neptune Law Enforcement Officer (NLEO) is to gather evidence of the criminality involved with those that illegally try to enter the UK via small boats. The evidence will be used to support criminal prosecutions. The evidence will be gathered using a multitude of assets and equipment including fast boats and drones. The NLEO will be a drone pilot who will deploy on land and at sea on a variety of vessels including fast boats to gather evidence and support criminal prosecutions.

The NLEO will support the Neptune Higher Officer (NHO) and wider team to assist in:

- Maritime border security.
- Controlling and countering small boat migrant channel crossings by deploying as part of maritime and aviation operations in the English Channel.
- Delivering a response to small boat attempts to cross the channel.

You will be part of a new team and expected to proactively assist the NHO as the role develops.

This is a physically demanding role and you must be comfortable working on and around aircraft, drones, and maritime vessels. You must be able to deploy at sea on various crafts including small fast boats.

You must be able to pass all training associated with designation as a Customs Official, appointment as an Immigration Officer, maintain Personal Safety Level 3 for which a level of physical fitness is required, maintain drone pilot qualification and certification and any other training associated with the role.

Due to the nature of the post, it is available on a full-time basis only.

**Person specification**:
You will be required to:

- Be a multi functional dual warranted Customs Official and Immigration Officer.
- Be qualified to and be able to pilot drones.
- Deploy at sea on a variety of vessels, including fast boats as a platform to launch and pilot a drone in order to gather evidence of criminality. Deployments on land will also be required.
- Gather, record, store and present evidence in court or other proceedings from capture to production in court, in accordance with all legal, policy and any other relevant procedures.
- Find, identify, track and gather evidence of criminality of those who are involved in the criminality associated with those who attempt to enter the UK illegally via small boats in the English Channel.
- Assist to prevent all uncontrolled landings.
- Update any live event reporting as required for the effective, safe and secure migrant interception and onward transfer to processing.
- Carry out other duties reasonably required commensurate with the role and grade of a Border Force Officer.
- Carry out deployments, pilot drones, gather evidence, appear in court as a witness.
- Contribute to the live maritime picture to assist the prevention of uncontrolled small boat crossings.
- Work closely with the wider Small Boats Operational Command (SBOC) teams, as well as other teams and partners across government and contractors.
- Liaise with internal and external agencies including Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCGA), Border Force (BF) and Immigration Enforcement (IE) as well as outside contractors to ensure successful deployments.
- Provide support to the Joint Control Room (JCR) in the daily execution of maritime operations within the JCR, including MCGA and BF assets.
- Inform NHO on tactical matters that may have operational or strategic implications.
- Work with others across government agencies, other relevant bodies and the land component to support the tactical operation.
- Produce daily reports and briefings as required.
