The Joint Control Room (JCR) based at Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCGA) Dover coordinates and manages the maritime, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and land-based response to migrant attempts to breach the UK border.

**Job description**:
The primary purpose of the Maritime and Aviation Senior Officer (MASO) is to understand the operational environment across the English Channel and the wider strategic objectives of the command, acting as the Silver (tactical) commander, directing and managing multi agency response, providing advice on issues and opportunities as they arise, to achieve:

- Maritime border security.
- Controlling and countering small boat migrant channel crossings by leading maritime and aviation operations in the English Channel.
- Planning and delivering a response to small boat attempts to cross the channel.

The MASO will:
Engage with maritime partners to co-ordinate operations being delivered by the Small Boats Operational Command (SBOC).

Deploy to the Joint Control Room (JCR) in Dover, managing the control room and reporting.

Engage with MCGA to prioritise and triage Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) incidents.

Prioritise and deploy maritime and aviation assets to deliver counter migrant activity.

Find, identify, track and intercept migrants who attempt to enter the UK via small boats in the English Channel.

Prevent all uncontrolled landings.

Collaboratively deliver effective, safe and secure migrant interception and onward transfer to processing.

Coordinate with and support the MCGA in provision of Search And Rescue (SAR) in the English Channel in line with international law and the international convention of SOLAS.

Personnel would be expected to undertake in house training to enable them to operate the maritime and aviation role, building understanding in all the elements that are required.

Due to the nature of the post, it is available on a full-time basis only.

We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year and you would be required to work flexibly and operate over a 24/7 shift rota, this can include: Night shifts; Early morning starts, sometimes before 6am; Late night finishes, sometimes after midnight; Weekend and Public Holidays; Shifts can vary in length and can be up to 12 hours; Shifts that change or extend according to business need.

Together, the JCR assist in keeping track of the live maritime picture to contribute to the prevention of uncontrolled small boat crossings.

The post holder will work closely with the wider SBOC team, as well as operational and programme management leads in the wider SBOC and across the Home Office.

The role involves liaison with external agencies including MCGA, Border Force (BF) and Immigration Enforcement (IE) as well as outside contractors, to recommend and communicate deployment taskings from JCR Assistant Director (G7).

To provide oversight, support and direction to the daily execution of maritime operations within the JCR, including MCGA and BF assets.

Inform JCR Assistant Director (G7) on tactical matters that may have operational or strategic implications.

To provide tactical advice to JCR Assistant Director (G7) undertaking maritime and aviation operations.

To liaise across government agencies, other relevant bodies and the land component to support the tactical operation.

To provide management, mentoring and training to the staff in the execution of their duties.

Produce daily reports and briefings as required.
