**Queens' College, Catering Porter**

**Overall Purpose of Job**

To maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the Catering Department, supporting the Food Service and Kitchen teams in the running of a smooth, efficient and economical department.
- The role covers all Catering areas of the college. Main Cripps site (including Café/Bar area), Old Hall & Old Kitchens and when appropriate the President’s Lodge._

**Main Duties and Responsibilities to include**:
**Health & Safety and Hygiene**:

- Ensure compliance with statutory and College Health & Safety, Food Safety Management systems and Allergen policies/regulations are always maintained
- Have concern for own health & safety and that of others who are in college, whether they are members of the College, employees or visitors.
- Ensure all Personal Hygiene Standards, Health, Safety and Security regulations are always adhered to, this includes the College fire safety procedures and COSHH regulations; report any faults or infringements of these procedures or act immediately where appropriate to correct them. You have a duty to carry out work so that you never put yourself or others at risk, creating a safer working environment for everyone
- Maintain and ensure that the uniform and/or protective clothing provided is always clean and presentable and worn whilst on duty. (Any clothing provided remains the property of Queens’ College)
- Inform a member of the senior management team if any evidence of pests or insects is observed in any of the back of house or public areas.
- Inform a member of the duty management team of any equipment malfunctions, maintenance issues or health and Safety infringements or observations
- Complete the daily hygiene and cleaning schedules in accordance with Catering Department guidelines
- Uphold the security of the departmental areas under your control. If aware of any security flaws in the catering department, report to the management immediately

**Plate wash/Pot wash/General Cleaning Services**:

- Ensure at all times all department cleaning equipment and machines are operated and maintained according to the manufacturers, department and Health and safety guidelines
- Maintain and clean all of the equipment and work areas in your area of responsibility following the departmental cleaning schedules
- Ensure that all equipment used in food preparation and food service is thoroughly washed, sterilised, checked for cleanliness and returned to the correct storage area as soon as possible
- Clean all food service and main kitchen storage areas including fridges and freezers according to the department cleaning schedules
- Dispose of food waste following Catering Department food safety policy and waste management policy
- Empty all refuse bins daily. Ensuring the waste is disposed of according to the College recycling programme
- Ensure the College’s refuse area (including loading bay) is kept in clean and tidy order, in accordance with departmental guidelines and environmental policy
- When required, operate the dishwashing machine in the President’s Lodge
- Assist with the preparation and completion of the department termly kitchen deep clean
- Have the flexibility to interchange and assist in all areas that are operated by the catering porters team.

**Department Good Housekeeping**:

- Maintain supplies of sundry cleaning materials and chemicals ensuring the best practice is maintained according to the usage, storage, being mindful of cost implications on excessive usage and stock holding.
- Maintain a high level of cleaning and hygiene controls in the department changing rooms and toilets. Reporting any misuse or infringements to the department food policy or general good practice.
- Ensure all kitchen hand soap dispensers, roller towels and kitchen rolls are refilled on a regular basis according to the commitment to 5* excellence in food safety.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the main staff room

**Portering Duties**:

- To complete table and chair layouts in all the department catering areas in a timely fashion according to event requirements
- Assist in the transportation of food, wine and equipment to various parts of the College when requested
- Assist the procurement and Stock team with the unpacking and storage of deliveries as and when required

**Miscellaneous**:

- Undertake any other duties and responsibilities appropriate with the post as directed by a member of the Catering Management Team and/or College Officer
- Establish good relationships with Fellows, students, staff, conference delegates and other customers
- Always assume utmost confidentiality; no information should be disclosed to any third party if it may compromise the privacy and/or safety of any student, staff member or client of Queens’ College - if in doubt speak to the Key Supervisor or HoD
