Due to the continued growth on our Govia Thameslink Railway contract, we are now recruiting for a new member to join us as a Security Officer.

**Job Title: Security officer**

**Reports To: Operations Supervisor**

**Role Overview**: To patrol the designation areas within the station and reduce risk on the network.

The Security officer reports to the Supervisor/Operations Manager in relation to their responsibilities and performance. You will also report to and take direction and instruction from client and STM management when required. The position will be based at client site on GTR network. The security officer will maintain responsibility for specific goals and targets in accordance with the defined role.

**Shift times**:Monday - Sunday 07:00 - 19:00 (12 hours)

Monday - Sunday 19:00 - 07:00 (12 hours)

**What we require from you**:

- A valid SIA licence
- Smart, well-groomed and confident disposition
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Successful applicants MUST be able to provide 5 years of work history for vetting (without gaps)
- Applicants must be living within the area due to shift start times are able to work days/nights across 7 days without exceptions.

**Core duties and responsibilities**:

- Maintain a highly visual presence focussing on concourse, operating any physical mitigations in place.
- Be an example for other members of staff in respect of the security role.
- To keep yourself and others around you safe.
- Maintain an excellent level of timekeeping and attendance.

Make use of electronic media (WhatsApp groups and Jotform) to raise awareness and report incidents.
- All security officers must have attended the relevant training with STM.
- Create and maintain an excellent customer environment throughout your area, working collaboratively recognising that it is the little things we do that can also make a difference.
- Seek opportunities to delight the customer by conversing with a polite and professional manner with them while on duty.
- Ensure customer security and alert Control and / or British Transport Police of any anti-social behavior across the network.
- Act as an STM Champion by portraying a professional, efficient and customer focused image at all times, through the highest standards of appearance, conduct and behavior.
- To analyze situations quickly and effectively using discretion and good judgement while on duty.
- Whilst on duty wear the agreed uniform and adopt a high-profile visible presence, proactively engaging with customers at stations throughout network who require assistance whilst using the GTR services.
- The primary role of the ‘security officer’ is to ensure the station remains safe by conducting regular robust security checks as per the agreed station plan.
- Responsible for and are expected to challenge customer behaviour that they deem to be suspicious and respond accordingly as per their training.
- Security officers will be required to carry out regular high visibility patrols of the Station Platform conducting thorough checks and searches of areas of Vulnerability. These patrols will be recorded in a timely fashion on the search log and available for inspection by any authorised person at any time.
- Security Officer must be fully compliant with the HOT and WHAT protocols and fully understand their meaning.
- All security staff must be fully aware of all evacuation routes having a good knowledge of exits from the station in the event of an item of suspicion being located or for any other reason.
- Be prepared to assist all emergency services and senior station staff as appropriate and as directed by them.
- Be able to write concise reports which may need to be conveyed to the Emergency Services or Station Staff
- Maintain the integrity of non-public areas, locked doors, station tenants and access-controlled areas.
- Remain vigilant, Observant and always provide a visible reassuring presence on the station platform.
- Develop a firm understanding and knowledge of the whole station layout.
- Be fully aware of the current relevant security threat level within the UK particularly relevant to Railway Stations.
- Have a full understanding of safe evacuation distances.
- Any other duties as directed by station staff relevant to your role.
- Ensuring you read and sign the Assignment Instructions and Risk Assessments.
- Ensuring you use Logosoft Application to log in and log out of shifts.
