Aylesbury, United Kingdom Added Value Solutions UK (AVS UK) Full time

**About URA Thrusters and AVS UK**

AVS UK has been established for almost a decade, delivering precision mechanisms and mechatronics, developing electrical power processing units, integrating mechanical systems and building complex scientific instruments. We are involved in work towards lunar expeditions and deep space missions.

URA Thrusters spun out from AVS UK in 2019, and builds propulsion systems for spacecraft (enabling satellites to move when in space). URA is the Basque word for ‘water’ and we use water, or other sustainable propellants to power our systems.

The two companies share combined facilities (a workshop and meeting rooms) and some combined resources, including the finance and operations teams. This role will support both companies.

Both companies are focussed on delivering excellent results, in a sustainable way. We believe in developing our people (we employ apprentices, are supporting one colleague in her PhD, and offer all staff training and mentoring as needed) and challenging what is possible in science.

**The Role**

We’re looking for a Head of Operations to work alongside the CTOs of both URA and AVS UK and to support the CEO, overseeing all daily activities of both companies including finance, HR, IT, safety and regulatory compliance (amongst others).

You will be the main point of contact for both companies in the UK for anything non-technical, and should be a strong decision maker with an eye for detail as well as the ability to see the big picture. You will need excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at once. No two days will be the same

Ultimately, you will ensure that both companies run smoothly, and safely to deliver excellent results.

Responsibilities will include:
**1. Leading the Businesses in the UK**

Be the ‘point person’ for everything non-technical in the UK, including finance, people, safety, operations, stakeholders etc. You will deal with anything that doesn’t fall naturally onto anyone else’s desk, and will ensure that all tasks are completed to ensure the smooth running of both companies.

**2. Strategy Development**:
Working with the leadership team, formulate and maintain business strategy, then, design policies and processes which support the strategy.

**3. Compliance**:
Ensure compliance with local and international laws and best practices (e.g. data protection, health and safety)

**4. Financial Operations**:
Oversee financial operations of both companies (the finance manager reports to this role) liaising with our parent company in Spain, and our accountants as needed.

Ensure that effective internal controls are in place to safeguard company assets.

**5. HR**:
We do not currently have an HR manager, so this role takes that function, supporting line managers, ensuring consistency across all teams and dealing with all ad hoc HR issues. This includes functional HR, but also motivating the teams to deliver as well as possible.

**6. Process Improvement**:
Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement streamlined financial procedures. Stay updated on industry best practices and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

**7. Productivity**:
Understand and monitor company productivity, reporting this to the management team, and suggest improvements where necessary.

**8. Be part of the management team**:
Work as part of a small UK management team, alongside the Spain based CEO. On a monthly basis lead the company’s project management meeting to ensure spend is forecast and accurately reported across all activities, and issues, risks and resourcing carefully balanced.

**9. Risk Management**

Lead on the company’s risk profile, ensuring the risks and issues are captured, understood and mitigated.

**10. Stakeholder Management**

Be the ‘go-to’ person for anything non-technical, with internal and external stakeholders. This could include the local University (who we have apprentices with), the Westcott Space Cluster, the UK Space Agency, a Minister when visiting Westcott, Suppliers, Customers, Staff - anyone

**Skills & Experience**:
**Mandatory Requirements**:

- At least 5 years experience in an operations (or similar) role
- Understanding of key business functions and the associated UK regulations e.g. HR, finance, IT and procurement
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- To work in a naturally organised and structured way
- Fluent in English and right to work in the UK
- Good with numbers, with an ability to support company financial planning and strategy.

**Desirable requirements**:

- Knowledge of Spanish.
- Experience in manufacturing, engineering or technological industries
- Experience of working with international partners
- Experience of working with investors.

**Benefits & Perks**
- We are a friendly team, who work flexibly. Once probation has been passed, some working at home days may be possible.
- W
