The Environment Agency is an incredible place to work, learn and develop. We work tirelessly to protect and enhance our environment and this is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, fun individual to contribute to our work. You will be involved in the operation and maintenance of the flood warning & water resource monitoring network across Cornwall and West Devon.
The role will require you to use your own initiative, work independently at times and prioritise your work effectively both in the field and office to ensure delivery of the Hydrometry and Telemetry (H&T) monitoring programme
You will be required to work in the field in all weathers carrying out quality assurance, responding to instrument faults and carrying out reactive site visits during incidents.
You will become a member of a lively, reactive, dedicated team, you must be flexible in your approach and be able to adapt and manage your workload to changing demands. You will also be required to have an active incident role
- The team- Based in Bodmin, Cornwall, we are a team of friendly, highly skilled, motivated people. Our team is responsible for the monitoring and collection of high quality rainfall, surface and groundwater data across Cornwall and West Devon.
We deliver a vital service that underpins much of the Environment Agency's statutory responsibilities relating to flood risk and water resources management therefore maintaining our data to the highest standard is essential.
- Experience/skills required- You will ideally have a scientific or environmental background and be educated to at least A-level standard. You will be passionate about the environment and relish the opportunity to ‘make a difference’.
With strong practical problem solving skills, you will be experienced in handling and managing data. Use of own initiative is essential, you will have an eye for detail, be efficient and work in an environmentally sensitive manner.
Experience of field work, lone working, water safety, risk assessment and scientific instrumentation would be advantageous.
You will be required to work alone, sometimes in remote locations so a good knowledge of health & safety and associated risks is essential.
Good communication skills are a must as you will be required to interact effectively with the team, both internal and external customers and members of the public.
You must be able to swim and hold a current UK driving licence.
