The role of Deputy Postgraduate Dean in England has evolved over a number of years as a result of changes in healthcare education and training, the implementation of revalidation, the emergence of new workforce solutions, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), the continuing development of NHS England (NHSE).

The role of the Deputy Dean helps support the Regional Postgraduate Dean in embracing corporate, statutory and non-statutory functions, aligning with the NHSE mandate. The role is focussed firmly upon improving patient and learner safety and experience and ensuring effective educational outcomes

**The main focus for the Deputy Postgraduate Dean will be**:
To support the Dean in leading the PGMDE work including quality across hospital and community care.

To represent the Dean working with an individual ICBs on all PGMDE issues

Liaise with Quality Team about all quality issues within the three ICBs across the North West

To liaise with GP DD/AD Leads for the ICBs

To line manage a group of ADs whose trusts will broadly align with the ICB, and the schools and portfolios that those ADs cover.

To chair meetings and lead development and educational events to support the strategic goals of the hospital and community team.

To deputise for the Regional Postgraduate Dean (as appropriate)

Deputy Postgraduate Deans (DDs) will be expected to work as group of 3 Hospital & Community Care (HCC) DDs, to support DMEs/HoS chairing meetings and leading development and educational events, and to lead on individual areas including Greater Manchester, Workforce and DME meetings.
