Head of Finance

**The Company Overview**:
Butler rose are partnered with a well-respected landed estates business, responsible for the sustainable stewardship of farming, forestry and property on the Shropshire and Staffordshire borders. They are seeking a Head of Finance in what is an interestingand exciting opportunity.

The role blends managing a team of partially qualified accountants, producing accurate and meaningful management information, and supporting the Managing Director and Senior Management Team (SMT) execute the vision of the Portfolio.

The current financial processes and ways of working are being reviewed and this work needs to remain ongoing to ensure practices remains efficient and effective. Maintaining this as a solid platform and developing the finance team will then enable the Headof Finance to offer greater support to the Managing Director and SMT.

The role would suit a professional with a technical, commercial and practical mindset who has the appetite to lead, be a team player and add weight to discussions and the vision.

**Your new role as Head of Finance**:
**Your duties will include**:
**Financial Management, Reporting and Decision-making**

Producing insightful and timely management accounts, periodic reports and statutory accounts across the trading entities and trusts

Taking ownership of budgeting and forecasting across the trading entities and trusts

Working with management teams to develop and track key performance indicators for each business

Overseeing an on-going focus on financial process and systems improvement (centred around the Xero financial management package) and the identification of opportunities to enhance efficiency

**Tax**

Harnessing the expertise of professional advisers to maintain a comprehensive awareness of fiscal policy and its implications for the business

Overseeing the business's interactions with HMRC, particularly with regard to VAT, corporation tax and capital investments

**Treasury**

Together with the Managing Director, maintaining a comprehensive treasury management strategy that meets the disparate demands of the overall business and its constituent enterprises

**Payroll and pensions**

Overseeing the administration of payroll (outsourced processing)

Managing the pension contributions process

**Leadership**

Developing the capabilities and rigour of the finance function, empowering its members to make a valued contribution to the success of the overall business

Playing a full role as part of the senior management team in developing and scrutinising business plans and shaping the wider business's culture

**Governance**

Acting as Company Secretary (including submitting statutory accounts) and ensuring compliance with Trust Registration Service requirements

Ensuring robust internal financial controls, and supporting management systems, are in place across the business

**External relationships**

Maintaining, and where necessary establishing, strong working relationships with key external advisers and other third parties

**The Experience & Qualifications Required**:

- Qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA)
- Experienced Head of Finance
- Experience of small owner managed businesses
- Ideally experience of landed estates, private property company or family office
- Experience managing a small finance team
- Comfortable supporting and working alongside other members of the Senior Management Team
- Closely manage the finance team whilst enabling the Finance Team to grow
- Pragmatic, commercial decision maker
- Comfortable taking ownership of the annual finance timeline
- Flexibility to meet the demands and realities of a growing portfolio
