**The Opportunity**
This role is based within the Vehicle Safety Test Laboratories (VSTL) Crash Preparation and Analysis Workshop within Engineering Laboratories (EL) organisation. EL plays an integral part in physical Verification & Validation (V&V) within the JLR product creation and delivery system.
This role is responsible for leading the technical delivery of the electrical readiness of test vehicle preparation and managing the post-test activity in a workshop environment, with a focus on electrical matters and leadership of processes. The role is primarily at Whitley and may require occasional work at Gaydon or external test houses.
**Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities**
Electrical preparation of crash test vehicles, prior to shipment to test houses.
Lead non-HV electrical system processes:
- Diagnostics of complex electrical issues (including non-standard vehicle builds and configurations)
- Issue resolution, to deliver minimum viable product for crash testing, and assist post test system analysis. Development and implementation of hardware and/or software crash fixes for first or subsequent crash tests.
- Lead Software Download activities for workshop.
Lead HV pre-test processes.
- Pre-shipment HV system readiness.
- Diagnostics and technical lead of issue resolution.
- Technical and H&S sign-off.
Lead HV post-test processes
- Crashed vehicle status checks
- Safe handling of crashed vehicles, crashed or damaged batteries
- Assist with battery analysis actions.
- Manage and operate disposal processes for vehicles and batteries.
General
Ability to conclude deep diagnostics on prototype vehicles and implement suitable fixes.
Lead development of efficient operating processes for crash vehicle preparation and post test analysis.
Determine immediate and future workshop hardware and software requirements. Responsible for leading maintenance and timely calibration of relevant tools, equipment and instrumentation.
Ensure all compliance frameworks including “Quality Management System” IATF 16949, “Environmental” ISO 14001 and “Health & Safety Management System” ISO 45001.
To up-skill others in team.
Implementation of Kanban operating model; internally and with customer groups, as required.
**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**
- Technical/working knowledge of most vehicle electrical systems, assemblies and parts.
- Problem-solver with a structured approach in a technical environment.
- Hands-on experience of vehicle preparation for testing.
- Passionate and interested in working with Non-HV and HV electrical systems. Trained to work with HV vehicles and/or batteries.
- A clear communicator (verbal and written), able understand complex documentation, able to author clear processes
- Ability to process associated vehicle data and report on findings, raise issues through AIMS2 or other systems.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements e.g. HEV, Risk Assessments, COSHH etc.
- Computer literate, and familiar with FMS, SWDL and diagnostic software.
- Skilled role, ideally trained to NVQ3 or higher as Vehicle Technician, Electrical Technician or similar.
