**Job Description Nursery Practitioner.**
**Purpose of the post.**
- To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for the children placed in the nursery.
- To support other personnel within the nursery.
- To implement the daily routine of the nursery.
- To work as part of a team in order to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children can play learn and develop.
**Key Areas.**
- Work with and support the children.
- Work with other members of staff and supervise students.
- Liaise, build and maintain strong partnerships with the parents.
**Responsible to**:
- Nursery manager/deputy manager or team leader.
**Duties and Responsibilities.**
- Operate a programme of activities to suit the age, stage and individual needs of the children in your area in conjunction with other members of staff.
- To keep a current up to date profile of achievements of your own key children.
Only sharing this information with parents, carers and other key adults in the child’s life.
- Work with parents of special needs children to ensure full integration of the child into the nursery setting.
- Support all colleagues and engage in a good staff team.
- Liaise with and support parents and other family members.
- To be involved in out of hours activities, e.g. training, staff meetings, parents evenings, fund raising events.
- Must be flexible within the working practices of the nursery; be prepared to help where needed, e.g. preparation of meals, cleaning of nursery and equipment.
- Work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the nursery’s philosophy is fulfilled.
- Read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role as deemed appropriate by the manager.
- Record accidents in the relevant file. Ensure the book is signed by the parents
/carer. Manager or her deputy needs to be informed of any incidents.
- Look upon the nursery as a ‘whole’ where can your help be most utilised? Be constantly aware of the needs of the children.
- Ensure the child is collected by someone who is known to the nursery.
- All concerns re-safeguarding of the children are to be reported immediately to the DSL (designated safeguarding lead) or the manager.
- Respect the confidentiality of information received. Ensure confidential information and records about children are only accessible to those who have a right or professional need to see them.
- Be aware of the needs of children from different ethnic and social backgrounds.
- Maintain your own personal and professional development and assist in the development of colleagues and students.
- Monitor maintenance of the fabric and equipment in the nursery reporting any concerns to the manager or her deputy.
- Setting up and storing toys and equipment appropriately.
- Maintain an awareness of the fire drill in accordance with the nursery policy.
- The post holder’s duties must be carried out at all times in compliance with the nursery’s equal opportunities policy.
- Ensure the health and safety of the children and colleagues, become familiar with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- To be aware of the high standards of the nursery and uphold these at all times, both within work hours and outside.
**Specific childcare tasks.**
- The preparation and completion of activities to suit each individual child’s stage of development and interests.
- To develop you role within the team especially with regard as a key person.
- To ensure that mealtimes are a time of pleasant social sharing.
- Washing and changing children as required.
- To ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.
- Ensuring that a poorly child is kept calm and warm. Inform management immediately.
- To develop and maintain strong partnerships and communications with the parents and carers to facilitate day to day caring and early learning needs.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
**Salary**: £19,760.00-£21,216.00 per year

**Education**:
- GCSE or equivalent (preferred)
**Experience**:
- Nursery: 1 year (required)
- Childcare: 1 year (required)
