The post holder will ensure high levels of patient and clinician satisfaction by being an accessible, customer focused and knowledgeable point of contact.
To provide a consistent approach across the Trust, using Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to ensure that functions of the role are carried out correctly within given timescales.
Acute Assessment Unit Receptionist
The AAU of Kingston Hospital is seeking a highly motivated person to become a member of the front line Reception team in this busy and developing department. As part of this team you will help to provide efficient and high standards of patient care at all times.
As these are key front-line positions, we are looking for a dynamic individual with relevant demonstrated experience and a professional commitment to high levels of personal performance and presentation. Genuine competency in IT, excellent verbal communication skills and best practice in administration are essential within this role.
We are very busy department, and we operate shift patterns that would require you to be able to work days, weekends and Bank Holidays. The AAU Receptionist position supports the unit from 8am to 10pm each day, across a variety of shifts.

Receptionist Responsibilities
- To carry out general receptionist duties, which includes booking all patients into the department following the established procedures, via the electronic patient record system.
- To answer incoming telephone enquiries from patients, relatives, GP’s and deal the queries efficiently and effectively.
- To carry out general clerical duties, including the maintenance of records (electronic or physical) and filing, sorting and delivering post.
- To make appointments for patients as required.
- To enter patients’ details onto the computer system including any admissions.
- To support the nursing and medical staff with clerical assistance as required.
- To access patient medical notes when required from the Hospital Health Records filing system and ensure their safe return where appropriate.
- To assist in the production and distribution of patient discharge letters.
- To receive patients and visitors to the Unit, ensure appropriate hand hygiene measures are taken at all times and deal with queries as necessary.
- Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times in accordance with Trust Policies and other regulations such as the Data Protection Act, Health Records Act and Freedom of Information Act.
- Ensure all clinical rooms and reception areas have clinic stationery, ensuring that stock levels are maintained and correctly recorded.
- Provide a professional and welcoming ‘front of house’ reception service, receiving patients with courtesy and consideration, mindful of the sensitive nature of the work.
- Provide welcoming and functional patient waiting environments, ensuring facilities are available and working, disruptive patients are managed and all areas are tidy.
- Take responsibility for ensuring all patient files are kept secure at all times and the main reception area and patient entrance doors are locked and secure at the end of the each clinic.
