My client in **Salisbury** is looking for an experienced **Band 5 Haematology/ Blood Transfusion Biomedical Scientist** for a locum contract.

Job Role:

- Monday
- Friday
- 37.5 h/week
- Specialist BMSs act in a scientific role in the analysis of blood, body fluids, tissues and cells using specialised laboratory equipment to determine the presence or absence of disease, enabling diagnosis and monitoring the effectiveness of treatment.
- Specialist BMSs will be expected to work unsupervised, carrying out routine and more complex investigations and analyses. which enable population screening for inherited or malignant disorders. They use acquired specialist knowledge of the latest biomedicaltechniques and complex instrumentation alongside more traditional manual methods of investigation in order to achieve a result.
- Specialist BMSs will organise their own workload. They will report on progress and notify any problems to the appropriate team manager as necessary.
- The post holder will be expected to demonstrate competencies in all areas associated with providing a service at any time and also deal with queries from medical and other staff. They are expected to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments withintheir clinical area as part of their continuing professional development (CPD) and may be required to develop a specialist interest depending on services offered by the laboratory.
- Assist in the teaching and development of staff.

Qualifications and Experience required:

- **HCPC registered as a BMS**:

- Post-graduate, post-registration training in a specialist area, leading to a completed specialist portfolio (or working towards)
- Understands theoretical and practical laboratory procedures within the department.
- Ability to work within all areas of the department.
- Understands quality control / quality assurance procedures
- Evidence of continuing professional development to demonstrate specialist knowledge
- At least two years' experience as an HCPC registered biomedical scientist.
- Detailed working knowledge of laboratory information and management computer system.
- Possess highly developed technical skills and be adept at all laboratory procedures.
- Ability to operate / troubleshoot complex laboratory equipment and interpret results
- Competent at training other staff
- Ability to organise own workload and that of subordinate staff
- Possess good interpersonal and communication skills
