Speech and Language Therapy Assistant Practitioner

The post holder will join a well-established team of assistants and clinicians. We are an integrated service which provides Speech Therapy to inpatients and outpatients in Ipswich Hospital, as well as in the community. The service also supports people with learning disability. The service is in high demand and while we are busy, the work is immensely rewarding. You will find us a friendly and supportive team who will be delighted to train and develop the right person for this role.
The post holder will work with people with communication difficulties to help them communicate as effectively as possible. This work involves a range of approaches which may include exercises to maintain speech, working with family so they can support good conversations, helping to introduce communication aids when talking is no longer possible.
Some of our clients have swallowing problems and you may need to provide observations or swallowing therapy as part of the speech therapy plan. Working in the community, you will see people in their own homes (including care homes), in one of our community bases, and sometimes through virtual appointments. There will be some administrative tasks associated with the role, eg completing referrals to other services, booking appointments, producing therapy materials.

We deliver care from two main hospitals in Colchester and Ipswich, six community hospitals and in patients’ own homes. You will be joining a team of 10,000 amazing colleagues providing care to 800,000 residents.
