12 Month Fixed Term Contract (Maternity Cover)
Salary £26,929.76 per annum
Hours 42.5 per week by Rota Basis (including weekends)
Occasional equine late checks 8:30pm - 9:00pm
Horse And Pony Protection Association are seeking to recruit an Equine Care Supervisor for a twelve-month period to cover maternity leave.
Previous experience in a supervisory, head groom or assistant management role is essential. The charity is looking for a confident, capable rider to supervise and assist with the backing and reschooling of equines from a variety of backgrounds and is an essential skill the postholder must demonstrate.

Essential Qulification; BHS Stage 2 Ride & Care of Equivalent Qualification/Experience
Desirable: BHS PTT, BHSAI
**OVERALL,** **PURPOSE** **OF** **JOB**
This is a hands on, yard based, position with an emphasis on Centre based equine care and the supervision of a team of Equine Care Officers (ECOs).
Under the guidance of the Equine Rehabilitation & Rehoming Manager (ERRM) the post holder will supervise and support the Equine Care Team, driving and ensuring a high standard of care is delivered to all equines onsite.
Sufficient knowledge and understanding of the specific needs of equines on a rehabilitation programme is essential. Sound experience of handling equines with good stable management skills. The ability to maintain standards with regards a communication, cleanliness, and tidiness throughout the yard alongside working closely and supportively with colleagues and the public.
**PRINCIPAL** **RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Staffing**
- To attend and contribute towards effective monthly staff meetings - To supervise, engage and support and motivate ECOs
- To be customer focused and ensure that customer care is always delivered
- To support other staff members prior to and during euthanasia of equines. - To assist with inductions for all new ECO starters.
- Under the management of the ERRM to ensure the equine facility is working efficiently and operational activity is always fully functional across all areas
- To ensure smooth running of yard tasks
- To undertake and supervise a range of routine tasks associated with high standards of care and welfare.
- To assist with training of staff
**Equine** **Care** **and** **Rehabilitation**
- To supervise and monitor ECOs to ensure that yard tasks are being completed to a high standard in a timely fashion
- To feed, muck out and bed down equines
- In conjunction with the other ECS and ERRM assist in identifying animals for ridden work and offer support in creating varied programmes of socialisation for all equines at the centre.
- To progress all equines through training plans created alongside the ERRM.
- To give feedback regarding the progress of all equines on a rehabilitation programme.
- To Identify and treat various ailments and injuries.
- To work with feral, nervous and unhandled equines
- To assist ECO’s with the rehabilitation of their allocated equines - To assist the vet, farrier or dental technician when required.
- To help maintain a clean and safe environment for equines, staff and visitors to the centre.
- To implement and adhere to yard health and safety policies by reading risk assessments and COSHH sheets. Reporting any near miss occurrences to the ERRM and Head of Equine Operations.
- Report any PPE required to the ERRM.
- To assist in updating risk assessments and COSHH sheets and supervise the instruction, induction process to ensure H & S compliance across staffing areas.
- To ensure that any problems wear and tear with equipment used in the rehabilitation processes are reported in a timely manner.
- To ensure all equipment used in the retraining/ridden process is clean and safe to use and report any misuse of equipment or wear and tear.
- To help Identify equines for the Sponsorship Scheme.
- To back/break problem and young equines
- To school equines for improvement
- To work equines from the ground to show improvement.
- To be open minded and keen to learn and develop your skills.
- To supervise and monitor schedules for equine movements and ensure.

- To fill in behaviour assessments, isolation records and attendance forms as requested by the ERRM.
- To provide information for the management of HAPPA quality of life points system.
