Fisheries Senior Environmental Management Officer

We seek an experienced Fisheries officer able to assist with delivering our programs of work.
- The role will:
- Have oversight of the fisheries programme - work towards consistency across the Area (where appropriate), help resolve or manage delivery problems.
- Engage with the commission process - gather and evaluate local monitoring needs for entry on the database, participate in prioritisation and tracking delivery.
- Review fisheries monitoring - evaluate local interpretation of national programmes, compare local programmes within area and draw out best practice and any learning to feed into future local programmes.
- Lead fisheries reporting - work towards consistency across the Area with agreed template(s), ensure reports are disseminated and used as widely as possible. Consider internal report/information needs and provide QA of reports.
- Run regular cross-Area meetings for A&R fisheries staff and participate in the EAn fisheries group.
- Engage with angling interest groups - primarily Angling Trust but other local angling groups. This will include personal interactions, provision of information, social media engagement.
- Ensure delivery of top-quality hydro acoustic data across the Area, particularly from sensitive sites.
- Lead on engagement at sites of high interest for fisheries monitoring.
The team
- The team is responsible for ensuring chemistry, ecology and fishery monitoring programs collect the information we need for a variety of legislative, national and local requirements.
- The team is comprised of officers skilled at monitoring fieldwork, laboratory work, and with an expertise in assessing this multi-functional monitoring data and turning it into evidence. This evidence informs the wider business and ultimately helps underpin environmental improvements. Experience/skills required
- Ideally you will be qualified to at least degree level or have a minimum of two years’ experience in a relevant discipline (e.g. fisheries science, ecology, environmental sciences, biology).
- You must be trained in and have experience of:
- Fish Monitoring programmes
- Writing of Fish reports for a range of customers, including as an expert witness
- Hydro-Acoustic Survey
- Data analysis and interpretation
Experience using Excel and Word is essential. You need to be able to work effectively on your own and within a team and be able to produce clear written work.
- A full UK driving licence is essential.
- You'll be willing to undertake specialist training when necessary.- We take part in incident response. You’ll be encouraged to get involved and support depending on your role and circumstances. Full training will be provided.
