- Job description
The Directorate of Security (formerly Long Term High Security) have a number of vacancies for Registered (Band 7) forensic psychologists at various sites. The population in DoS prisons are some of the most complex, challenging and high risk Category A and B men and young people in the country. Prisons are spread across a wide geographical area but t is a working ethos throughout the region. We encourage and support team working across sites.
Psychologists in DoS have a range of responsibilities, which includes the assessment of high risk, complex and diverse cases, intervention work, consultancy, research, training and development, as well as providing supervision and line management to trainee psychologists. Many of the prisoners within the region are serving life/indeterminate sentences or very long determinate sentences. Offences include serious violent and sexual offences, terrorism offences and organised crime such as drug trafficking and armed robbery. Psychologists working in DoS form an integral part of prison life and work ly with local teams and senior managers to contribute to the day-to-day management of the establishment and the prisoners residing t; psychologically informed solutions to support progressive cultures, environments and regimes are actively embraced within the Directorate. Psychologists are also required to work ly with external agencies involved in the management of offenders.
The region has a strong focus on the training and development of staff. We value the continuing professional development of all grades of staff within the region. In addition to accessing formally offered training events, we also provide a programme of grade neutral continuing professional development seminars, aiming to share the wide range of expertise held within our large staff group. We also support the attendance of staff at external conferences and events to ensure up to date knowledge is maintained, and then subsequently shared with the wider group.
