An exciting opportunity has arisen for newly qualified Physicians Associates to join Emergency Care at North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust for a full time permanent contract, working as part of Care Group 2, Responsive Care. 3 posts available.

As one of the leading Emergency Care areas nationally, we are a forward thinking care group with a vision to provide the highest quality service and patient experience. This includes rapidly evolving service needs to meet clinical demands and the most up to date current clinical evidence and practices.

Current shift pattern is g seven days a week. These shifts will be structured to meet increasing demand and times of pressure.

The post will be offered as Agenda for Change Band 6 working towards a Band 7 following completion of competencies.

Clinical Duties include appropriate assessment of presenting patients including ordering appropriate investigations, interpreting investigation findings, forming a list of differential. Diagnoses and recommending treatment accordingly, supporting consultant ward rounds, working within the assessment areas to assist with initial triage of patients, highlighting unwell patients to senior medical staff and identifying potential early discharges, maintaining timely and appropriate documentation.

The successful applicants will work across the area to develop skills in the first year post qualification. You will be supported in your development through high quality clinical supervision by our Consultant Medical staff.

You will be required to work alongside the Medical Team and Advanced Nurse Practitioners to ensure that you support the delivery of excellent patient care at North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust.

The Physician Associate role is being developed to work alongside the medical team. They will assess and examine patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations, and recommended treatment. They will liaise with other professionals and specialities as required and complete necessary documentation relating to their patients. They will be supervised by a designated Consultant and will also have a named Educational Supervisor to oversee their career development. This post it based within the Emergency Department, however, it is envisaged that the role will be developed flexibly over time in accordance with the appointee’s clinical interests and in line with the needs of the service.
