**Job summary**:
- We are offering the opportunity to work in an exciting and rewarding role covering one of the Government’s most important and complex priorities - We are recruiting a policy and strategy advisor who will lead on elements of the local government finance system, in particular looking at local government income and funding flexibilities.
- This work requires careful, strategic policy thinking in a political environment, and clear thinking about the impacts of any future change on the local government finance system and consideration of delivery.
- This will involve working with a range of stakeholders, including policy, strategy, operational and analytical teams within the Department, as well as contacts in other departments and officials in local government, including a number of stakeholders in senior roles.
- The role will also involve identifying, evaluating and generating ideas for the continual improvement of the local government finance system. The post-holder will need to consider interdependencies with the wider department’s agenda, seeking to draw strategic links with the local government finance directorate’s objectives.

- Highly motivated, and takes ownership of their work;
- Able to weigh up a range of evidence and options, including numerical data, and use sound judgement to form advice;
- Able to form strong, effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders, and are comfortable working with stakeholders with a wide range of views;
- Able to see the big picture and think strategically, whilst also having a keen eye for detail;
- Able to verbally brief senior staff, write succinct and clear written briefings for Ministers, and draft public briefing lines;
- At ease with planning and programme tools to support their work and keep others informed;
- Comfortable with working at pace.
