Call Handler

**Emergency Call Handler / 999 & 111 Police Contact Centre Officer** who has a calm and professional telephone manner with good administrative, typing and communication skills is required for a Police Call Centre based in Southampton.

**NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED - FULL TRAINING PROVIDED**

Applicants need to be aged 18 on appointment, although not for the recruitment process.

**SALARY**:up to £29,738 per annum + Benefits

**LOCATION**: Southampton, Hampshire

**JOB TYPE**: Full-Time, Permanent

**WORKING HOURS**: 24/7, 365 Days Per Year

**PLEASE NOTE:Shift Work is Essential to the role.**

This means you will need to be able to join colleagues in working overnight shifts and weekends (including bank holidays). You’ll receive extra allowance payments for these shifts, and they will be scheduled well in advance so that you can plan properly.

**JOB OVERVIEW**

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for an Emergency Call Handler / 999 & 111 Police Contact Centre Officer who has a calm and professional telephone manner with good administrative, typing and communication skills.

Acting as the front line of policing as a Police Controller / Emergency Call Handler / 999 & 111 Police Contact Centre Officer, you will be responsible for managing incidents within the Police Control Room. Your role will include deploying police resourcesto incidents; being the voice on the radio that the Officers hear and providing them with information and support when attending incidents.

As the Police Controller / Emergency Call Handler / 999 & 111 Police Contact Centre Officer you will also be responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency calls. You will ensure the most appropriate help and support is provided to the public, ensuringyou handle every incident with empathy, whilst remaining calm when dealing with potentially sensitive and upsetting matters.

**ABOUT YOU**

As a Police Controller / Emergency Call Handler / 999 & 111 Police Contact Centre Officer your excellent customer service and problem solving skills could be just what they need. More often than not you will be speaking to people in situations where theyreally need your help. You therefore must be able to stay calm and professional at all times, effectively receiving and recording information accurately to ensure the correct police resource are deployed to members of the public.

**CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS**:

- Excellent customer service and administrative skills
- Good typing speed (min. 28 words per minute) - You should be able to check your typing speed for free using Google to search for 'Typing Speed Test’
- Good IT literacy
- Calm demeanour with good listening and problem-solving skills
- Flexibility to work day and evening shifts, which is essential to the role
