The Rehabilitation Assistant for Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) supports individuals recovering from brain injuries by implementing rehabilitation plans, assisting with daily activities, and promoting independence. Working under the supervision of rehabilitation professionals (such as Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, or Speech-Language Pathologists), the Rehabilitation Assistant helps clients regain cognitive, physical, and social skills in various settings, including healthcare facilities, community programs, or home environments.
**Key Responsibilities:Client Support & Rehabilitation**:
- Assist in the implementation of individualized rehabilitation programs designed by healthcare professionals.
- Support clients in activities of daily living (ADLs), including mobility, personal care, and communication.
- Provide cognitive and behavioral support, including memory exercises, problem-solving tasks, and emotional regulation strategies.
- Facilitate physical therapy exercises to improve strength, coordination, and mobility.
- Encourage participation in community activities and social interactions to enhance independence.
- Assist with adaptive equipment and assistive technology as needed.
**Monitoring & Documentation**:
- Observe and record clients’ progress and report any changes to the rehabilitation team.
- Maintain accurate records of activities, interventions, and client responses.
- Communicate effectively with families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals regarding client needs and progress.
**Safety & Advocacy**:
- Ensure a safe and supportive environment for clients.
- Provide guidance on fall prevention, safety awareness, and mobility assistance.
- Advocate for clients’ needs and rights while promoting their autonomy.
**Qualifications & Skills:Education & Experience**:
- Diploma or certificate in Rehabilitation Assistance, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physiotherapy Assistant, or a related field.
- Experience working with individuals with acquired brain injuries, neurological conditions, or disabilities is an asset.
**Skills & Competencies**:
- Strong understanding of brain injury rehabilitation principles.
- Ability to assist with physical and cognitive exercises.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and adaptability in challenging situations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Basic knowledge of assistive devices and rehabilitation equipment.
**Additional Requirements**:
- First Aid and CPR certification (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license with Business Insurance
- Vulnerable Sector Check or background screening may be required.
**Work Environment**:
- May involve working in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, residential homes, or community settings.
- Requires physical activity, including lifting, assisting with mobility, and prolonged standing.
- May involve flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, depending on client needs.
