JOB PURPOSE

The post holder will support the NHS Liaison Unit within the Centre for Medical Education by co-ordinating student clinical placement evaluations and managing honorary titles for NHS medical educators. They will provide professional advice to internal and external stakeholders, analyse evaluation data to inform decisions, and contribute to quality assurance for a positive student and educator experience.

By fostering strong relationships and clear communication, the post holder will help improve processes and support the Unit's goal of delivering high-quality medical education across Wales in partnership with NHS bodies, the Welsh Government, and the General Medical Council.

This role is eligible to be offered on a blended working basis, meaning that as well as spending time working on campus you can also choose to spend some time working from another location, e.g. your home. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Duties

  • Provide detailed advice and guidance on clinical placement evaluation and honorary title processes and procedures to internal and external customers (staff, students or members of the public), using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action, and contributing to the solving of more complex issues.
  • Gather, analyse and interpret both qualitative and quantitative data, identifying trends and producing clear reports and recommendations for management and contributing to assurance and enhancement reporting for Cardiff, Swansea and Bangor Universities, Welsh Government and GMC.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of evaluation processes, producing accurate and informative student placement evaluation reports for a range of stakeholders.
  • Organise and participate in meetings with Welsh Medical Schools and NHS colleagues to review and enhance the student clinical placement experience.
  • Instruct and support colleagues across the University in the areas of evaluation, quality assurance, and honorary titles, ensuring consistency of approach.
  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with University and NHS partners, strengthening communication links and service delivery and ensuring effective liaison across all Welsh health boards and trusts.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and procedures, working with others to recommend and implement changes.
  • Undertake a variety of administrative tasks to support the team and centre in achieving objectives.
  • Support the organisation and delivery of annual All-Wales teaching and liaison meetings between Cardiff, Swansea and Bangor Medical Schools and NHS bodies

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to communicate in writing clearly, concisely, and effectively to provide detailed advice and guidance on reporting both qualitative and quantitative feedback data.
  • Experience of working in an administrative role or environment and ability to set up standard office systems and procedures, making improvements to these as appropriate.

  • Ability to communicate specialist and complex information effectively and professionally to a range of customers with varying levels of understanding.

  • Specialist knowledge of analysing online survey and evaluation data.

  • Evidence of a good standard of numeracy and IT literacy.

  • Ability to explore customers' needs and adapt the service you provide accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered.

  • Ability to advise and influence key stakeholders in your area of work.

  • Ability to use your initiative and creativity to solve problems, respond to queries and make recommendations, identifying and proposing practical solutions.

  • Ability to work unsupervised to deadlines, planning, setting and monitoring your priorities and those of the team.

  • Ability to work with data analysis, including the use of tools such as Excel, Access or equivalent, to manage, interpret, and draw insights from complex datasets.

  • A willingness to undertake further training and development.

Desirable Criteria

Additional Information

The Quality, Enhancement & NHS Liaison Unit is part of the Centre for Medical Education within Cardiff University. The Unit's general role is to facilitate working relationships between the University and a range of NHS bodies, particularly in the shared delivery of high quality medical education for medical student on clinical placements. The Unit has an All-Wales role in organising annual teaching meeting between the schools of Medicine in Cardiff and Swansea University and managerial and clinical staff at NHS bodies in Wales.

A major part of the work of the Unit is in support of the University's evaluation processes by implementing and coordinating a centralised systematic process of medical student evaluation of clinical placements, thereby assuring the University, Welsh Government and the GMC of the quality of clinical Medical Education in Wales.

The Unit also works with NHS bodies to ensure the appropriate recognition of NHS staff involved in clinical Medical Education through the award of University Honorary Titles.
