Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Head Chef for a short-term contract to lead our kitchen team at a busy, high-quality gastropub in Kendal. The ideal candidate will be a creative, passionate, and organised professional capable of maintaining our high standards during this period. This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic individual to showcase their leadership skills and culinary talent within a respected establishment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead all aspects of the kitchen's daily operations, including food preparation, cooking, and plating during a high-volume service.
  • Develop and execute seasonally inspired, fresh-food menus that align with the gastropub's reputation for quality British cuisine.
  • Ensure the kitchen operates efficiently and profitably by managing inventory, controlling food costs, and minimising waste.
  • Maintain the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness at all times, ensuring full compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Oversee and mentor the kitchen brigade, fostering a positive and productive working environment.
  • Effectively manage suppliers, ensuring the quality and freshness of all ingredients.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Head Chef or a strong Senior Sous Chef in a busy gastropub or quality restaurant environment.
  • A creative flair for British cuisine, using fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to perform under pressure.
  • Up-to-date Food Hygiene and Health & Safety certification (minimum Level 3 preferred).
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
