Gardener/ Groundskeeper to commence Nov/Dec 2025
(permanent for the right candidate)
· 40hrs per week, 5 days out of 7, 8am – 5pm (1hr lunch)
· Flexibility required, the role will require some weekend and Bank holiday working
· Up to £12.52ph
This gardening role will assist our Lead Groundskeeper and Zoo Director to deliver Zoo projects.
Previous experience of gardening and growing vegetables with a genuine interest in gardening would be desirable.
Duties
- As well as growing, you will be involved in landscaping, mowing, planting, strimming, weeding and groundwork ensuring that the Zoo grounds look their best all year round
- You will also require some DIY skills and the ability to drive Zoo vehicles and operate machinery & equipment
- Experience of using garden equipment and hand tools is essential
- A horticulture qualification would be an advantage but is not essential
- Will require own transport as the Zoo is in a rural setting with no public transport
Skills
- A working knowledge of growing various types of vegetables and flowers and understanding their care requirements would be an advantage
- Proficiency in using both power tools and hand tools related to grounds keeping tasks.
- Ability to irrigate effectively to ensure optimal plant health.
- A keen eye for detail to maintain aesthetic appeal in gardens and outdoor spaces.
- Good physical fitness to perform manual labour tasks efficiently.
- Excellent time management skills to complete tasks within designated timeframes.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
