Location: Cambridge/Hybrid with 2-3 day office attendance per week
Contract: Permanent/Full Time (35 hours per week)
Join Cambridge University Press & Assessment (CUP&A) as a Technical Product Manager in Education, focusing on Marking & Core Operations. Drive the development of innovative solutions that deliver exceptional value to our customers and users and accelerate AI capability across the organisation. Work at the frontier of AI development in education and assessment, collaborating with leading thinkers. We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.
About the role
As Technical Product Manager, you will:
- Lead a cross-functional team within Education to develop a portfolio of solutions that transform and streamline marking and core operations processes, reducing delivery costs, shortening assessment cycles, and improving quality.
- Own the complete product lifecycle, from concept through launch, growth, maturity, and eventual evolution or retirement.
- Partner with designers and engineers to run discovery to understand user needs and design solutions to meet these. Rapidly prototype and test ideas with users at the concept stage and gather ongoing user feedback as you develop the solution.
- Define the product vision, clear product outcomes, and success metrics aligned with business objectives and other strategic initiatives.
- Ensure solutions meet the rigorous quality standards demanded for high-stakes assessment, engaging internal and external stakeholders (including regulators and industry bodies) to validate requirements and evidence these have been met.
- Manage stakeholder relationships and the technical backlog, leading the technical team to deliver against the product roadmap.
- Oversee release strategy and change management to drive user adoption (working with change management resources). Monitor product performance post-launch and drive continuous improvement based on user feedback and data.
- Champion the appropriate use of AI and support the adoption of new tools and concepts across CUP&A, aligning with our wider AI strategy.
- Collaborate with other AI Pods to identify synergies and opportunities to accelerate value delivery across the organisation.
About you
We're looking for someone with:
- 3+ years of product management experience with proven success.
- Strong discovery skills: customer interviews, prototype testing, and data analysis, with a focus on identifying opportunities for AI integration and innovation.
- Experience in cross-functional product teams, collaborating closely with technical teams to shape future roadmaps
- Passion for solving customer problems and building elegant solutions that leverage AI capabilities to drive measurable outcomes.
- Deep awareness and hands-on experience with AI technologies, including the ability to assess and prioritize AI investments over traditional RPA and process improvement initiatives.
- Excellent communication, storytelling, data-driven decision-making skills, and the ability to translate complex concepts into clear business value propositions.
- Strategic thinking, leadership, and the ability to coach and mentor others.
- Collaborative, resilient, and empowered approach to work, with a mindset geared toward continuous learning and innovation.
