Senior Engineering Manager

About You.

  • Do you have a background in modern technology stacks, cloud-native architectures, and SaaS solutions?
  • Have you previously worked in a Leadership role?
  • Does the idea of joining a business undergoing an exciting period of transformation appeal?

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Manager to join our Technology and Transformation leadership team. This is a pivotal role where you'll shape and build a brand-new technology capability for Billing Finance. You'll drive key technology initiatives, oversee project delivery, and ensure our solutions align with strategic business objectives, with a particular focus on supporting a SaaS implementation and building out our data and AI capabilities.

This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of Billing Finance as we evolve into a modern, technology-led organisation. We operate within a Scaled Agile Framework, focusing on delivering value-driven outcomes, with technology as a true business enabler.

What You'll Do

Leadership & Strategy

  • Own the overall Technology and Engineering strategy for Billing, setting the direction for how technology supports business growth.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders to define the technology roadmap, ensuring alignment with broader business goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing technology team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Play a key role in recruiting and building your team, as this is a new capability within Billing Finance.

Technical Oversight

  • Oversee all aspects of Data, Infrastructure, Integrations, Test Engineering, AI and Architecture for the Billing domain.
  • Drive the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performance technology solutions.
  • Manage our SaaS-based core systems, key system integrations, and a comprehensive data platform to support business operations.
  • Evaluate, select, and implement software, automation tools, and data solutions that enhance business efficiency.
  • While primarily a leadership role, be willing to engage in technical details, review code, and support delivery teams when necessary.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Facilitate strong communication between engineering teams and business leaders to maintain alignment on priorities.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to inform strategic decisions.
  • Conduct regular assessments of technology performance, identifying opportunities for optimisation and innovation.

Your Background and Experience

Technical Expertise:

  • Strong background in modern technology stacks, cloud-native architectures, and SaaS solutions.
  • A strong engineering background with extensive cloud experience—you'll be confident operating in a cloud-first environment.
  • Proven experience in technology leadership roles, with a solid understanding of software development, data engineering, and modern architectural principles.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C#, with the ability to engage in technical discussions and code reviews when needed.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automation tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of troubleshooting complex technical challenges efficiently.

Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and grow high-performing teams in fast-paced, agile environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively.
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to manage multiple projects, balancing short-term deliverables with long-term goals.
  • Experience managing third-party vendors and technology partners to deliver complex solutions preferred but not essential.
  • A hands-on, problem-solving mindset, with the ability to dive deep when required while maintaining strategic oversight.

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with proven leadership skills. While we don't expect candidates to tick every box, you should be able to demonstrate how you would leverage internal resources and external partners to complement your skill set.
