Role Overview
At RLB, we're proud to be shaping the future of the built environment — and we know that starts with investing in the next generation of talent. Our Year Out Placements are a great opportunity to explore what it's like to work at RLB, gain hands-on experience, and start building your career in a supportive, collaborative environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesRole Responsibilities
As a Building Surveying Placement at RLB, you'll work closely with our experienced Building Surveyors to gain hands-on experience across a range of projects and sectors. You'll support the delivery of professional surveying services throughout the building lifecycle — from design and construction through to maintenance and refurbishment.
During your placement, you'll learn how we assess building condition, manage projects, and advise clients on cost-effective and sustainable solutions. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your technical understanding, client communication skills, and insight into how Building Surveyors add value to the built environment.
Your day-to-day could include:
- Assist with building condition surveys and site inspections, capturing key information and photographs.
- Help prepare schedules of condition, defect reports, and survey documentation.
- Support project delivery, including monitoring works on site and assisting with contract administration tasks.
- Contribute to preparing specifications, tender documents, and reports for clients.
- Carry out research into building materials, construction methods, and sustainability best practice.
- Attend internal meetings and site visits with senior team members to observe professional practice.
- Maintain accurate project records and assist with data management.
- Learn to use RLB's digital tools and systems to support efficient project delivery.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for people who are curious, motivated, and ready to learn. You'll be studying a RICS accredited degree in Building Surveying, or a related discipline.
