Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Applied Psychologist to join a supportive team within the Paediatric Psychology and Neurodevelopmental Services across County Durham and Darlington. The successful applicant will work in the Paediatric Neurodisability Service and Pre-school Social Communication and Assessment Teams. The successful candidate will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including Consultant Paediatricians, Specialist Nurses, Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists.

Whilst the Paediatric Psychology Service is based within County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, it forms part of the wider Durham and Tees Valley Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services within Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust. Paediatric Psychology is a highly valued profession within both the Acute and Mental Health Trusts.

This vacancy is open to experienced Band 8A Applied Psychologists or offered as a Band 7 Applied Psychologist development post. We also welcome applicants from those due to complete Doctoral Training within the next 3 months. Successful candidates who are appointed at Band 7 will be expected to work towards the competencies of the B8A Psychologist role and regraded to higher banding upon successful completion. We take staff development seriously and will work with you on your CPD needs. Main duties of the job

Joining a well-established, supportive service, the successful applicant will provide assessment of children and young people presenting with neurodisability and neurodevelopmental difficulties, offering support to them and their families. The post holder will contribute to pre-school Social Communication Assessment Team (SCAT) Autism assessments.

The post holder will provide psychological expertise to multidisciplinary teams and partner agencies, through joint working, clinical supervision, consultation and training.They will supervise Assistant and Trainee Psychologists.There are multiple opportunities to be involved in service development, audit and research, with the service constantly evolving to meet the needs of the population.

We are seeking an enthusiastic Applied Psychologist looking to develop their clinical leadership skills. Knowledge and experience of working with children and young people with health needs, neurodisability, autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions is important, as is experience conducting a range of neuropsychological assessments. The successful candidate will have the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and with multi-agency organisations. Experience of working systemically would be beneficial.

The post is across the County Durham and Darlington area, with clinics predominantly offered in Bishop Auckland, Darlington and Sedgefield. It is essential applicants can travel independently.

  • Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
