Head of PPC for Google Ads Agency

Head of PPC (Player-Coach)
Own It All. Build It Right. Lead by Example.
Base Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 (DOE)
On-Target Earnings: £85,000+ in Year 1
Commission: Uncapped (retention & growth bonuses)
Reports to: Founder
Location: 100% Remote (UK-based)
We're a fully remote Google Ads agency obsessed with delivering real, measurable results for our clients.
We're at an inflection point. We've grown rapidly in just a few years, and we're on track to hit $1M ARR over the next 24 months. But here's the thing: growth means nothing if we can't deliver exceptional service at scale. That's where you come in.
We need a Head of PPC who will own everything - account management, client delivery, team coaching, process building, and quality control. This is a player-coach role where you'll be hands-on with accounts while simultaneously building the team and systems that will scale us. You'll lead by example, doing great work yourself while teaching others to do the same.
We want to hire an expert, then let them do their job. You'll have complete autonomy to run Google Ads operations the way you know works.
What You Will Own
All Account Management
You will personally manage a portfolio of key client accounts, delivering exceptional results through hands-on campaign management. This means building campaigns from scratch, optimising performance, conducting audits, and being the strategic advisor clients trust. You're not just overseeing - you're doing the work.
All Client Delivery
You own the quality and outcomes of every client account, whether you're managing it personally or a team member is. You establish the standards, implement quality control processes, conduct account reviews, and ensure every client gets great results. If something isn't working, you diagnose it and fix it - whether that means jumping into the account yourself or coaching the team member responsible.
All Team Coaching
As we scale, you'll hire and develop Google Ads specialists, training them to operate at your level. You'll create a high-performing culture by leading by example; showing them how you work, teaching them your processes, and coaching them through challenges. You're building the team that will eventually take accounts off your plate, but you're doing it by demonstrating excellence first.
All Process Building
You will develop the systems, processes, and frameworks that allow us to deliver consistent, exceptional results at scale. This includes campaign build templates, optimisation workflows, reporting standards, client communication protocols, and quality assurance checklists. You're building the operating system for our Google Ads service based on what actually works in your own accounts.
All Quality Control
You are the guardian of our reputation. Every campaign, every client interaction, every result - it all reflects on you. You'll implement quality control measures, conduct regular audits, and ensure we never embarrass ourselves. You set the bar, and you hold everyone (including yourself) to it.
Why This Role Exists
Let's be honest about where we are: This isn't a corporate role where everything is already built and you're just maintaining it. You'll be building the infrastructure, creating the processes, and establishing the standards. If you need everything to be perfect before you start, this isn't the role. If you're excited about building something from a strong foundation and having the autonomy to do it your way, keep reading.
The founder built this agency on hustle, hard work, and a commitment to doing right by clients. As we scale to our growth targets over the next two years, we need someone that can own Google Ads operations completely - someone with deep technical expertise, proven ability to deliver results, and the leadership skills to build a team around that excellence.
This is a player-coach role because we're at a stage where we need an expert practitioner who can do great work AND teach others to do the same. You'll be joining a small, talented team and building it into a best-in-class operation of 6-8+ specialists over the next 12-18 months. You'll start hands-on with accounts and gradually scale the team as we grow, always maintaining the quality standards you set from day one.
We want to hire an expert, then let them do their job. You'll have complete autonomy to run operations the way you see fit.
What Success Looks Like
3 Months: You will have taken ownership of key client accounts and demonstrated your expertise through measurable results. You'll have established initial processes and quality standards, and you'll be actively working with the existing team to elevate their performance. The founder will have confidence that Google Ads operations are in expert hands.
6 Months: You will have built a high-performing team culture where everyone is learning from your example and delivering consistently strong results. You'll have implemented scalable processes and systems that ensure quality across all accounts. You'll be balancing hands-on account work with team development, and the founder will be increasingly hands-off with day-to-day operations.
12 Months: You will have complete ownership of Google Ads operations with a team that operates at your standard. You'll have developed a scalable framework for service delivery, hired and trained new team members, and built the infrastructure that positions us competitively in the market. You'll still be hands-on with strategic accounts while the team handles the growing portfolio.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for an expert practitioner who can do excellent work AND build a team around that excellence. You need to fit our culture of honesty, integrity, and a commitment to continual improvement.
Experience & Expertise
You have a minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience in Google Ads, with deep expertise in Search, Shopping, Performance Max, and Display campaigns. You've personally managed significant ad budgets (£50K+/month) and have a proven track record of delivering exceptional ROAS and cost-per-lead results across multiple industries (eCommerce, SaaS, lead gen, B2B, B2C).
You have 2-3+ years of experience coaching, training, or managing Google Ads professionals. You've helped others improve their skills, and you know how to transfer your expertise to team members. You understand that great leadership means doing great work yourself first, then teaching others to do the same.
The Right Mindset
Being a Builder:You're comfortable with ambiguity and building things from scratch. You don't need a perfectly documented playbook handed to you - you create the playbook. You're excited about establishing standards and processes, not just following them.
Player-Coach Mentality: You're equally comfortable being in the trenches managing accounts and stepping back to coach team members. You lead by example and build credibility through your own results.
Extreme Ownership: You take full responsibility for every account, every result, every client interaction - whether you're doing the work yourself or someone on your team is. No excuses, no finger-pointing.
Process-Oriented: You naturally build systems and processes as you work. You document what works, create templates, and develop frameworks that allow others to replicate your success.
Quality-Obsessed: You're meticulous about details and have high standards for your own work and others'. You understand that reputation is built on consistency, professionalism, and doing things right every single time.
Data-Driven: You're highly analytical and use data to inform every decision. You're comfortable working with GA4, GTM, CRM integrations, and various tracking and reporting tools. You don't rely on gut feelings—you rely on evidence.
Self-Sufficient: You thrive in an autonomous environment where you're trusted to make decisions and run operations without constant oversight. You don't need hand-holding, you need freedom to do what you do best.
Teacher at Heart: You genuinely enjoy helping others improve and get satisfaction from building a high-performing team. You're patient, clear in your communication, and committed to developing talent.
Why You'll Love Working Here
- Competitive Earnings with Uncapped Upside: We offer a base salary of £50,000 - £60,000 (depending on experience) with on-target earnings of £85,000+ in Year 1. Our uncapped commission structure rewards you directly for retention and account growth—both your own accounts and your team's. After 2 years of service, you'll be eligible for our 10% profit share pool.
- Complete Autonomy: We want to hire an expert, then let them do their job. You'll have full autonomy to manage accounts, build processes, develop the team, and run operations the way you see fit. The founder will support you, but he won't micromanage you.
- Player-Coach Balance: You'll get to do what you love (managing accounts and delivering results) while also building something bigger (a team and systems that scale). You won't be stuck in meetings all day - you'll be in the work.
- 100% Remote Work: Say goodbye to the commute. We're a fully distributed team across five countries, and we trust you to get your work done wherever you are.
- Flexible Hours: Manage your own schedule and work when you're most productive. We care about results, not hours logged.
- Generous Paid Time Off: Take the time you need to rest and recharge - your well-being comes first.
- Career Growth & Impact: This role will evolve as the agency scales. You'll have a direct line to the founder, a seat at the table for major decisions, and the opportunity to shape the future of the company. As we grow, your role can grow with it.
- A-Team of Colleagues: You'll be working with a team of passionate, talented, and supportive professionals who are dedicated to doing great work. We're all about teamwork, good vibes, and getting things done without the drama.
Ready to Own It All?
If you're an expert Google Ads practitioner who wants to build something great - not just manage from a distance, but lead by example and create a team that operates at your standard - we want to hear from you.
This is your opportunity to have complete autonomy, make a significant impact, and work with a founder who values expertise, trust, and results over everything else.
This role is critical to our success. If you're the right person, you'll know it.
