Title: Facility & Grounds Maintenance Officer

Salary: Negotiable

Hours: 20 hours per week (spread across 4 days) with potential for extra hours when needed.

Line Manager: Facilities Operations Manager

Purpose of post: To play a key role in providing excellent facilities for our visitors at The New Croft. The post will look after the day-to-day upkeep of the site including the outside grass pitches, 3G pitches, building maintenance and redecoration.

Role Objectives:

  • Support the efficient, day-to-day running of The New Croft facility.
  • Contribute to delivering high-quality sporting facilities that encourage increased physical activity on site.
  • Oversee general health and safety responsibilities related to ground maintenance at The New Croft.
  • Carry out maintenance tasks on grass pitch areas, including mowing, setting out and marking sports areas in line with the regulations of relevant governing bodies.
  • Maintain the 3G pitches, including pitch brushing, weed control, and general site tidying such as emptying bins.
  • Maintain tools, machinery, and equipment used for building and grounds upkeep and renovation.
  • Carry out building maintenance tasks as needed, such as redecoration and fence repairs.
  • Report maintenance findings and communicate effectively to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Contribute positively to the team, offering creative and innovative ideas to support a progressive working environment.
  • Work safely, efficiently, and effectively at all times.

Person Specification

Key Skills and Experience Required - Mandatory

  • Strong passion for, and understanding of, groundskeeping and maintenance.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Physically fit and capable of handling tasks that involve heavy lifting.
  • Good working knowledge of power tools and competent general DIY skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Solid understanding of health and safety practices.
  • Able to contribute effectively as part of a team while also demonstrating initiative when working independently.
  • Willingness to consider taking on overtime, when offered, at busy times of the year.

Key Skills and Experience Required - Desirable

  • Basic plumbing and/or electrical skills.
  • GCSEs in Maths and English.
  • A strong passion for, and understanding of, sport, leisure, and community facilities.
  • Good knowledge of the work and purpose of the Haverhill Community Sports Association (HCSA).
  • A solid understanding of sport and the importance of health and wellbeing activities.
