Novalis Trust is a charity that supports children and adults with Neurodevelopmental Difficulties and other learning needs. The cook position is based at William Morris School working in a team of three cooking for around 70 people.

Responsibilities for this role:

· Following a set menu to provide lunchtime meals.

· Cooking for a set number of people using fresh ingredients daily taking into consideration food allergies.

· Weekly ordering of food and supplies (some on-line)

Job Description

Planning, preparing and presenting food for pupils/staff

Main responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook lunchtime meals following the set menu using fresh ingredients for pupils and staff taking into consideration food allergies and ensuring that dietary requirements and where possible personal preferences are met, with an emphasis on good presentation.

  • Ordering stock, weekly on-line shopping, checking deliveries, maintaining stock levels, operating appropriate stock rotation, expiry date, fridge/freezer procedures, labelling all open food packaging and following the policies in place.

  • Complying with food handling, hygiene, and health and safety guidance and legislation.

  • Organising and cleaning the kitchen and kitchen equipment to a high standard in accordance with frequency schedules provided.

  • Disposing of kitchen waste and recycling on a daily basis.

  • Notifying the Domestic Manager of any faults in kitchen equipment or any shortage of materials or equipment and reporting any missing knives in the first instance to the Domestic Manager.

  • Ensure dangerous equipment is stored safely and securely.

  • Assisting as required to cover for absences of other domestic staff at all Novalis sites.

  • Assisting with catering at internal and external Novalis Trust functions, a change in contracted hours may apply for this.

  • Shopping for food where required and assisting with food service at mealtimes.

  • Completing record sheets promptly and correctly.

  • Maintaining strict personal hygiene at all times and observing rules in place covering clothing, personal ornaments and hair.

General

  • Undertaking training in personal and professional skills and in the Trust's ethos and systems and applying these in your working environment.

  • Assisting to create a caring, stimulating, and safe environment for client groups, staff and visitors.

  • Safeguarding and promoting the reputation of the Trust.

  • Taking all reasonable steps to safeguard your health and safety and that of the Trust's client groups, staff and visitors.

Mandatory training

  • Safeguarding Children in Education and KCSIE updates (annually)

  • Safeguarding Adults (biannually)

  • Online Prevent Training (during induction)

  • Health and Safety – Fire/CoSHH/food safety /manual handling (every 3 years)
