Watford, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom The VIP - Violence Intervention Project Full time £25,000 - £40,000 per year

VIP is a violence reduction charity in an exciting growth phase We're looking for a creative designer to help us shine — developing core materials and launching our new Shame Initiative with a logo, literature, and more.

What difference will you make?

This role will have a transformational impact on the Violence Intervention Project (VIP). As a small charity without an in-house design or marketing function, we've relied on word of mouth and the strength of our frontline work to build our reputation. Having professional design support will allow us to communicate our mission and impact far more powerfully — helping us reach new audiences, funders, and partners.

By creating a clear visual identity for
The Shame Initiative
, you'll help us launch a new national training and consultancy offer that takes our eight years of experience working with young people affected by violence and turns it into tools for systemic change. Your work will ensure that our materials – from reports and presentations to social media and print – are coherent, professional and emotionally engaging.

The difference you make will be both immediate and long-term our team will have the confidence and assets to promote our work effectively, the young people we support will see their stories represented with dignity and care, and our charity will be positioned to influence how services across the UK understand and address the role of shame in violence.

In short, your design skills will help us move from a small grassroots organisation to a nationally recognised voice for shame-informed practice – amplifying the impact of every project, every partnership, and every young person we reach

What are we looking for?

We're looking for a creative and socially minded designer who's excited about using their skills to help a small charity grow its voice and impact. You don't need to have worked in the charity sector before — what matters most is your ability to translate ideas and values into strong, accessible design.

Essential Qualities And Skills

  • Graphic design experience — comfortable creating logos, templates, and layouts for print and digital use.
  • Strong visual storytelling ability — able to capture tone, mood, and meaning through design.
  • Good understanding of brand identity and how to build consistency across different materials.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with non-designers, taking feedback and developing clear, practical outputs.
  • Reliable, organised, and able to manage your own time and priorities.

Desirable Experience (nice To Have)

  • Experience designing for charities, social enterprises, or purpose-led organisations.
  • Knowledge of accessible design principles and inclusive communication.
  • Familiarity with creating PowerPoint templates, reports, or leaflets.
  • If you have any web design experience this is a bonus as we will be looking to update the design of our website.

Above all, we're looking for someone who connects with our mission to reduce violence by addressing shame and who wants to help us communicate this work with authenticity, clarity, and heart.

What will you be doing?

About Violence Intervention Project (VIP)
The Violence Intervention Project is a small but ambitious charity of around 13 staff, most of whom deliver urban therapy with young people aged 12–25 who have experienced or been involved in violence. Our work focuses on the root causes of violence — particularly
shame
, which we understand as a powerful catalyst to violent behaviour.

After eight years of frontline practice, we're now expanding our impact through a new venture
The Shame Initiative
. This initiative will translate our learning into training and consultancy for professionals, helping others to adopt shame-informed practice across youth work, education, health, criminal justice, and beyond.

At present, VIP has
no in-house marketing or design function
, so your contribution will make a tangible and lasting difference to how we communicate and share our message.

What will you be doing?
We're looking for a creative designer who can help us bring The Shame Initiative to life and strengthen VIP's overall visual identity. You'll work closely with our small senior leadership team to shape the look and feel of our materials and ensure they reflect our ethos and professionalism.

Your key responsibilities and deliverables will include

  • Developing the visual identity for The Shame Initiative — creating a compelling logo, colour palette, and basic brand style guide.
  • Designing key launch materials, including PowerPoint slide templates, our first information leaflet, and visuals for social media and presentations.
  • Supporting core charity communications — designing ongoing literature such as our annual Impact Report, Patron's Prospectus, and project materials.
  • Helping shape our visual storytelling, ensuring that our design language communicates hope, empowerment, and transformation rather than stigma or deficit.

We expect the work to be flexible and collaborative, shaped around your availability and skills. You'll have creative freedom within a clear and inspiring brief, and we'll value your input on how best to visually express our message.

Who You'll Be Working With
You'll work primarily with our
CEO and Operations Manager
, who will provide context, feedback, and content. We're a friendly, close-knit team with a strong shared purpose and a hands-on approach. While most of our staff are frontline practitioners, we all share an interest in developing how we communicate our story to wider audiences.

We're seeking someone who enjoys working with values-driven organisations, can translate complex human issues into simple, engaging design, and wants to be part of something with real social impact.

Why this matters
This is an opportunity to help a small, passionate charity step into its next chapter — shaping a national conversation about violence, trauma, and shame. Your work will directly help us influence policy, train professionals, and support young people to live safer, fuller lives.
