About the role

This role is part of the Cambridgeshire's County Council's Public

Health Service.

The overall purpose of the Local Authority Research Practitioner

(LARP) is to ensure that public health research and

evidence-informed practice is embedded across Cambridgeshire

County Council (CCC) and its partners.

This is a new role that is half-funded by the NIHR School of Public

Health Research and provides a great opportunity to strengthen

public health research within local government, working

collaboratively across multiple partners including with the School

of Public Health Research at Newcastle University.

What will you be doing?

The postholder will help shape and embed public health research

by developing a structured and systematic approach to increasing

public health research activity, enhancing organisational public

health research capability, and supporting the practical use of

public health research evidence to inform decision-making to

improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities. They

will achieve this by raising public health research awareness,

assessing public health research readiness, guiding and training

staff in specialist public health skills, and developing the necessary

infrastructure and governance to support high-quality public

health research.

The postholder will need to work closely with NIHR Research

Support Service in the Specialist Centre for Public Health Research

and local academic partners, as well as LARPs in other local

authorities.

They will be managed by a Public Health Principal and will be in a

small team with a focus on public health research, evaluation and

developing a healthy place.

About you

We are looking for someone with a higher level degree in Public Health/related subject or equivalent experience, who has experience of working in public health research and can develop and nurture collaborations and partnerships across research organisations, the local authority and our other partners.
