About Cricket Green Medical Practice and this opportunity

Cricket Green Medical Practice is seeking an experienced and qualified Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly, supportive clinical team. Working alongside our Practice Nurses and GPs, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care within your scope of practice. You will play an important role in preventative health, health promotion, clinical tasks, and supporting patients with their ongoing care needs.

We are a welcoming and collaborative practice, committed to excellent patient care and to supporting the development of our team. This role is based on-site, and remote working is not available.

Cricket Green Medical Practice is a forward-thinking, well established GP surgery in Mitcham, South-West London. We provide care for a patient population of close to 12,000, working alongside a multi-skilled team of 40 clinical and administrative staff, supported by four GP partners.

About the hours

You will be available to work 20 hours per week on the following shifts:

  • Monday: 8:00 to 12:00
  • Tuesday: 16:00 to 20:00
  • Wednesday: 8:00 to 12:00
  • Thursday: 8:00 to 12:00
  • Friday: 8:00 to 12:00

About the role

The core responsibilities of the HCA can be found in the full job description attached but include amongst other duties:

  • Undertake new patient health checks and DM foot checks.
  • Undertake phlebotomy duties.
  • Undertake flu vaccination and B12 injections.
  • Carry out baseline observations (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry) and record findings accurately.
  • Undertake wound care, dressings, and other clinical tasks as required.
  • Support chronic disease management clinics, including foot checks.
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed.
  • Administer flu vaccinations (if trained and competent).
  • Carry out ECGs when requested.
  • Ensure specimens are labelled, recorded, and prepared for onward transportation.
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion as appropriate.

About you

Essential

  • Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4)
  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Previous experience of working within a clinical team.
  • Previous experience in conducting health checks.
  • Experience working with vulnerable patients.
  • Experience in organisation & communication Skills
  • Experience contributing to a positive team environment

Desirable

  • Experience with DM foot checks, administering flu injections and/or B12 injections (training available)
  • Experience working in a GP practice
  • Wound care / removal of suture & staples
  • ECG competency
  • Experience with new patient medicals
  • Chaperone training
