Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the friendly and supportive team based at Woodcote Medical. The post holder will work primarily with the Prescriptions Team and also provide administrative support to the wider team as required.
Main duties of the job
The Prescription Clerk provides support to our Clinicians in the receipt and preparation of repeat prescriptions for our patients. You will be the main point of contact for enquiries about prescriptions from patients, nursing/residential homes and pharmacies. A good telephone manner and excellent communication skills are essential, as is experience of issuing repeat prescriptions within a GP surgery setting.
Job Description
- To process all repeat items of medication sent in by patient using the various protocols in place. This includes email requests, online requests and paper requests
- To ensure that all requests are processed within a 48-hour time frame
- To liaise with patients, pharmacies, nursing/residential homes, hospitals and other outside agencies regarding queries and requests
- To ensure repeat medication is issued in line with Practice protocols, and when queries are raised that they are dealt with in the best way and given to the Clinical Pharmacist or relevant GP
- To actively encourage patients to reconcile medications to facilitate monthly collections
- To input data into the patients healthcare records as necessary
- To identify patients requiring a medication review and sent invites to book appointment online
- To undertake any other duties which are commensurate with the level and responsibilities of this post-holder
- To actively and continuously review all activities and suggest areas for improvement.
Person Specification
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in General Practice
- Experience of Emis
- Experience of processing repeat medication requests
- Ability to work on own and as part of a team
- Ability to prioritise tasks
- Ability to work in a pressurised environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Good understanding of IT
- Good communication skills in person, on the phone and in writing
- A flexible approach and an ability to demonstrate empathy

Woodcote Medical is a well-established suburban practice with approx. 18,000 patients across two locations. Our multidisciplinary team includes GPs, Clinical Pharmacists, ANPs, a Paramedic, Nurses, HCAs, First Contact Physio, and a large administrative and patient services team.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: £17,000.00-£18,500.00 per year
Expected hours: No less than 26 per week
