We're looking for an experienced and passionate School Cook to join the friendly team at Fieldstone School in Devon. You'll play a vital role in creating nutritious, balanced, and delicious meals for our pupils and staff—making lunchtime something everyone looks forward to

About the Role

As the School Cook, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day running of the kitchen, including menu planning, food preparation, and stock management. You'll ensure that all meals are prepared to a high standard, taking into account the dietary needs of our young people, and that the kitchen operates safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prepare balanced, high-quality menus that meet the needs of pupils and staff
  • Manage and monitor food stocks, portion control, and quality within budget
  • Ensure the kitchen and equipment are cleaned and maintained to high hygiene standards
  • Supervise and support kitchen staff, ensuring smooth daily operations
  • Prepare suitable food for individuals with special dietary requirements
  • Minimise waste and maintain accurate records of food use and supplies

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience working in a catering or school kitchen environment
  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and allergen management
  • A passion for creating nutritious and appealing meals for children
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills
  • A proactive, reliable, and flexible approach

Fieldstone School is an independent day school, supporting the most vulnerable young people in society aged 5-16; those children who do not find it easy to fit into existing educational provision. This can be for many reasons, including a range of behavioural, emotional and educational challenges, exacerbated by being on the autistic spectrum. Other difficulties such as sensory processing disorders, attachment disorders or those having faced trauma in their lives.
