Administrative Assistant (Temporary – 12 Months Maternity Cover)

Location: Hughes Architects, Newtown/Welshpool/Shrewsbury Office

Start Date: January 2026

Contract: Full-time, Temporary (37.5 hours per week)

Salary: £25,000 -£27,000 (depending on experience)

Hughes Architects is seeking a highly organised and detail-focused Administrative Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis, covering maternity leave for 12 months.

This role is central to the smooth running of our practice, providing essential administrative support to the Directors and management team. Our team values collaboration, efficiency, and innovation -we are looking for someone who thrives in a busy office environment, can manage multiple priorities, and enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues, clients, and consultants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day administrative support to management and staff

  • Manage calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate travel arrangements

  • Prepare and edit correspondence, reports, and presentations

  • Handle incoming calls, emails, and enquiries with professionalism

  • Maintain filing systems and ensure accurate record-keeping

  • Assist with office management tasks, including supplier and vendor coordination

Candidate Profile

  • Excellent communication skills – written and spoken
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities
  • Confidence in managing deadlines and prioritising tasks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Accuracy in typing and document preparation
  • Ability to work under pressure with a positive attitude
  • A full clean driving licence (travel between offices may be required)
