Trustee with fundraising experience

London, Greater London, United Kingdom Power for the People Full time

Are you passionate about making a tangible difference in the world? Do you have proven fundraising and leadership skills that you'd like to apply to a cause with real impact? We are seeking a new trustee to join our Board and play a vital role in shaping our future.
What difference will you make?

We partner with vulnerable and marginalised communities in East Africa to address the root causes of poverty - reducing dependence on aid and kickstarting sustainable development through "handshakes not handouts."

As our
Trustee and Chair of the Fundraising Subcommittee
, you will play a pivotal role in helping PFP grow and sustain its impact. Working closely with the CEO and fellow trustees, you will guide the development of our fundraising strategy, help us open doors to new partnerships, and help strengthen our income streams particularly in relation to individual giving and corporate support.

Your leadership will ensure we have the resources to deliver vital projects - from solar-powered water systems and environmental education to livelihoods training and menstrual health programmes - all designed to empower communities to build their own sustainable futures.

By joining us, you will help shape the next stage of PFP's growth and resilience. Trustees in our team describe the role as deeply rewarding a chance to use their professional skills for lasting good, develop new expertise in international development, and see tangible change in the lives of people and communities across East Africa.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an energetic and strategic individual who shares our belief in "handshakes not handouts" - supporting East African communities to drive their own sustainable development.

Our ideal trustee will bring experience in
fundraising and income generation
, ideally within the charity or social impact sector. You may have a background in individual or corporate giving, major donor fundraising, or strategic partnerships, and will feel confident guiding and inspiring others to achieve ambitious fundraising goals.

As
Chair of the Fundraising Subcommittee
, you will provide leadership, helping to shape and oversee our fundraising plans, support our small staff team, and connect PFP with new networks, supporters, and opportunities.

We value trustees who are

  • Strategic thinkers able to see the bigger picture and translate vision into achievable goals.
  • Collaborative and supportive, working well with staff and fellow trustees.
  • Proactive networkers who enjoy building relationships and opening doors.
  • Passionate about sustainable development, community empowerment, and locally led change.

We would welcome first-time trustees and will provide you with support and training to help you succeed in the role - so you do not need previous trustee or governance experience to apply.

Experience of working with or alongside small charities, or an understanding of the challenges faced by grassroots organisations and communities in East Africa, would be an advantage but above all, we're looking for someone with commitment, integrity, and the drive to make a lasting difference.

What will you be doing?

In this recruitment round, we are specifically seeking someone to Chair our Fundraising Sub-Committee, providing leadership and guidance to help us diversify and strengthen our income. We are especially keen to hear from individuals with experience in

  • Developing and delivering fundraising strategies
  • Building individual giving programmes
  • Creating and sustaining corporate partnerships

As a growing international development charity with a small but committed staff team (1.2 FTE in the UK, 10+ in East Africa), we are looking for trustees who are not only strategic thinkers but also prepared to roll up their sleeves and contribute actively within the boundaries of their role. We do have staff who are responsible for fundraising and communications so your focus would be more on guiding and shaping our approaches particularly growing our individual giving, major donor and corporate programmes.
