Role Overview:
We are seeking an Fire Alarm Technical Lead to join our busy and high-performing Active Fire team.
Responsible for the technical design, survey, and specification of fire detection and alarm systems in full compliance with BS and other relevant standards. The role ensures that all Fieldway designs are technically robust, compliant, and seamlessly integrated with wider building systems such as door entry, access control, PAVA, security, and BMS. Acting as a technical authority, the role will provide expert guidance from client consultation through to project completion, ensuring systems meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance.

Role Responsibilities:
Technical Design & Surveys
- Conduct detailed site surveys to assess client requirements, building layout, and system suitability.
- Design and specify fire detection and alarm systems in accordance with BS 5839-1, ensuring full technical and regulatory compliance.
- Prepare accurate design documentation, including system drawings, schematics, cause & effect matrices, and equipment schedules.
- Develop detailed design proposals and technical submissions for client approval and tender purposes.
- Ensure integration capability with door entry, access control, PAVA, security, and BMS systems.
Client Liaison & Technical Leadership
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, consultants, and contractors throughout project design stages.
- Communicate complex technical details clearly and confidently to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Support Fieldway's teams with technical advice, and problem resolution.
- Lead or participate in reviews, risk assessments, and validation processes.
- Represent Fieldway professionally in client meetings, site visits, and audits.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all designs, drawings, and specifications comply with relevant standards and codes of practice (BS 5839-1, BS 7273, BS 5266, EN 54, etc.).
- Produce and maintain design certification, calculations, and compliance documentation.
- Maintain an awareness of current and emerging legislation and advise management of potential impacts.
- Review completed installations for design compliance and performance.
- Promote a culture of technical excellence, compliance, and continuous improvement across the team.
General
- Uphold Fieldway's professional standards, values, and commitment to fire safety excellence.

Desirable & Essential Requirements:
- Formal qualification in BS Fire Detection & Alarm System Design (FIA or equivalent) are essential.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in the fire detection and alarm industry (surveying, design, or commissioning).
- Strong working knowledge of BS 5839-1:2017 (and 2023 amendments).
- Demonstrable experience integrating fire systems with door entry, access control, and security systems.
- Ability to read and produce technical drawings and documentation.
- Confident liaising with clients and leading technical discussions.
- Valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
- ECS/CSCS Card
- FIA Advanced Design, Maintenance or Commissioning certification is desirable. Experience as a senior engineer, project manager, or operations lead.
- Health & Safety and/or First Aid qualifications are desirable
